To say that the cover on the Lakeland 3 tier standard airer looks bollocks?

I have just bought one of these airers after years of MN praise. I didn't get the cover - I"m about to buy now, but I'm wondering why does it have those weird points like gables at the top when the airer itself is flat? And some of the reviews of the newer version (post 2020?) with condensation panels being (predictably) a bit shit for keeping the heat in are giving me pause.

Am I better off using a sheet - bearing in mind that I am slightly uptight about things being matchy-matchy?

Nah don’t buy it just use a sheet the cover is crap

HirplesWithHaggis · 15/08/2022 22:53

I use the cover (it's pointy because the legs stand proud of the drying rack, at the top) and it makes a difference, but chucking a towel or something on top makes it better.

Use a sheet. Works really well

GrunkleStan · 16/08/2022 08:56

Even better if the sheet has been washed, so that dries as well.

I’ve got the old style cover. Didn’t know there was a new version. It works much better than a sheet. I like the way it uses different zips to convert to a cover for the folded airer when it’s not in use.

Ducksinthebath · 16/08/2022 09:04

I found a duvet cover works just as well and is easier to get on and off.

AlisonDonut · 16/08/2022 09:08

I rarely use the cover at all. If I was still in the UK I'd send it to you.

Londonrach1 · 16/08/2022 09:09

I use a sheet

hulahooper2 · 16/08/2022 09:10

I use an old duvet cover as a cover , but only use a cover very occasionally

HavfrueDenizKisi · 16/08/2022 09:20

I only cover mine with a sheet or large towel if I've washed those. Works a treat. Save your money and don't bother with the cover!

ArcticSkewer · 16/08/2022 09:22

I'd send the whole thing back.

MsJuniper · 16/08/2022 09:25

I have the cover and really like it - I just have to unzip to take clothes off or put them on rather than take the whole thing off. We also only have one living/dining space so it is much neater in the corner than if we used a sheet or duvet cover. Clothes dry pretty quickly and we use it every day in winter. I think we've had it about 7-8 years.

WinterDeWinter · 16/08/2022 09:26

@AlisonDonut ah that would have been a lovely thought.

I'm worried that my standard airer doesn't have pointy bits at the top now. I bought it from Lakeland but via eBay - it was a return I think. Going to have a look...

I never understand why people prefer the Lakeland airer that needs a sheet over it, when there’s the marvellous invention the Dri-buddy - which you hang you clothes on, and blows hot air into a covered area. They’re wonderful!

QueenOfWeeds · 16/08/2022 09:39

There is a deluxe one and a non-deluxe one, and they are slightly different shapes. One has the pointy bits, the other doesn’t.

I may have found this out when I left a fairly scathing review and they sent a nice reply that I had bought the wrong one, and exchanged it for me 🤦🏻‍♀️.
