Packing for a ‘posh’ hotel! Help!!!

This is a massive first world problem and not really an AIBU but posting here for traffic as I’m starting to panic a bit. We are very lucky to be treated to a luxury holiday by in laws, but I’m starting to stress about what to pack.
It’s for DS 8 and DS 11 and me. DH can sort himself out.
I have 2 pairs of swim shorts and rash vests for the boys but morning and evening has got me questioning what I need. It’s the sort of place where everyone looks well turned out and while I’m quite happy my kids aren’t wearing designer, I’d quite like to not spend the holiday washing clothes that they’ve spilt stuff down. Do I need 2 pairs of shorts and 2 T-shirts each day? I really don’t have enough! Will they will need to be smart ish for breakfast?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated!! We go away next week!

They might have a dress code that says no shorts in the dining room. Other than that don't sweat it. Don't rock up to breakfast in your pyjamas obviously. Other normal clothes will be fine.

We stayed at a beautiful fancy hotel for 2 nights last year for our 10th wedding anniversary. We wore jeans and trainers because that's what we wear. It's fine.

My sons usually wore their swim shorts and a t shirt to breakfast with trainers or beach sandals. Ditto lunch. For dinner smarter shorts with polo tops.
The hotel website will have a dress code but they are usually more relaxed with children. Have your in laws been to this hotel before? If so they will be able to reassure you.
It’s your holiday, relax and have a lovely time. 😘

My two wear chino shorts & polo shirts for 'posh' dinners. I'd be surprised if children had to wear trousers, especially if it's a warm country.

We've stayed in some very nice places & people just rock up to dinner in standard holiday stuff.

If it's a free holiday, could you splash out on a laundry service halfway through your stay? Either the hotel or laundrette in the local town?

BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2022 20:53

They probably won't enforce a dress code on DC as long as they're properly dressed, so no pyjamas or swimwear.

Something that often helps if you're out and about all day before coming back for shower and dinner is to put clean clothes on then, and wear the same clothes the next day, so you only need one outfit per 24 hour period.

But surely at 8 and 11 they can eat without throwing food all over themselves? Perhaps time to get them familiar with napkins?

Check the dress code for various dining areas within the hotel. I.e jeans probably won't be allowed.
Check if collar shirts are required for men/boys
Probably no flip flops/beach gear.
I'd have the children in long trousers and a polo shirt for an evening meal.

Usually smart shorts and a shirt is fine for the evening. Just check. And have one pair of shorts just for that and two shirts. If they spill anything, you can wash them out overnight (darked on laundry doesn't count on holiday)

As a PP said it’s often long trousers only in the dining room in evening. Breakfast is usually more relaxed. I can’t see them enforcing a strict dress code with children but you never know maybe drop them an email just to check any restrictions? ( this has just reminded me of the Alan Partridge episode when he had a toddler removed from the dining room for wearing denim) 😂

Thanks for all your advice!
I think I’ll try the clean outfit for evening and pray my feral boys don’t get them dirty by insisting they use napkins! (They may refuse to be civilised!) Then wear the same to breakfast.
In laws will be no help as everything they own is designer and I doubt they pay attention to anyone else!
I think the buffet restaurant is quite casual so maybe even get away with swim shorts in there for breakfast. I’ve got a few 3rd hand Ralph Lauren polo shirts for DS8 which might work for evenings in any of the super posh places (if we don’t get refused entry! 😬😂)
I’ll also take some travel wash in case there are any really bad tomato sauce disasters. (Surely posh Mediterranean dark is a higher class to British?)
As for me I have one vaguely nice outfit which I’ll be wearing every evening and they can like it or lump it!
