Ordering taxis to our address-CF or not?

Mamma23 · 15/08/2022 08:34

There’s someone who lives somewhere (don’t know the person/house and there’s multiple houses it could be!) up the road from us. Their back lane opens out near our front door. The problem is that they keep ordering taxis to our address, and I assume walking down their back lane to get in the taxi. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac, so the taxis park across our cars (blocking us in). The person is also always late for the taxi, problem is, because the person gives our address, we get taxi drivers beeping/knocking on our door to say the taxi is here when we haven’t ordered one, and then we have to deal with the taxi drivers frustrations at being kept waiting. There was one time the taxi was sitting there around 20 mins. The driver knocked on the door, when I answered and told him I hadn’t ordered a taxi (I was in PJ’s and holding by baby, who still had food round his mouth, so he could clearly see I was going nowhere) he took his frustrations out on me and I ended up just shutting the door. I’m aware we don’t own the road outside our house but it’s incredibly frustrating that our address is being given and us having to deal with it. AIBU to think that they’re CF for not giving their own address?

Put a sign on your door saying that you have not ordered a taxi.
And next time it happens go out and tell the CF to get to fuck.

BakedTattie · 15/08/2022 08:38

Total CF.
Is it the same taxi company they use? If so You could try calling them and explain?

Tiani4 · 15/08/2022 08:42

If they mess around taxi companies leaving them waiting 20 mins, then you'll find you won't be able to order taxis yourself in future

So I would nip this in the bud.

Go out and ask the taxi driver why they are there- if they say someone at your address orders taxi - explain you have not ordered any a taxi so they need to move away off your drive now.

Take the name of taxi company and ring them- tell them your name and that whenever is ordering those taxis does not live at your address- the taxi drivers are creating a nuisance and it is harassing you. Explain you'll use your name if you order a taxi can they place a red flag on the name of this other person

If it is Uber write a complaint into Uber company

I have a similar issue with takeaway deliveries because I live opposite the entrance to a park. Now if they ring, I open the door, say "I haven't ordered food, it's always for someone in the park" and close the door without further discussion. It seems to be the least stressful way of dealing with it.

Littleduck80 · 15/08/2022 08:51

There is no way I'd be hanging a sign up on my door about taxis.

But I would contact the taxi firm as ask them to stop taking booking from the person under that name as your address because they don't exist. If another driver shows up, tell him to call the number on the booking and that you have reported the issue to his firm previously.

Mamma23 · 15/08/2022 09:09

Good idea- next time I’ll head out and get the name of the taxi company. I have no idea how often it happens- we both work full time (I’m off at the minute as I’m a teacher) and we quite often have our blinds down (we have a path that leads to a park next to our house so get lots of people walking past and nosying in) so it’s probably happening more often than I realise!

This is what I’m worried about, when it happened this morning my husband stuck his head out the window and told the taxi driver we hadn’t ordered one, and the taxi drivers can obviously see him coming down the back lane so I think any that are regular drivers should hopefully realise that he’s using our address instead of ours!
I always tend to order Uber’s (I just find it easier) and this is a taxi company, but you’re 100% right that if we wish to use this taxi company in future they may refuse!

Just ring the taxi firm!

converseandjeans · 15/08/2022 09:30

Just wait for the CF to come to get in the taxi & have a word. It sounds really inconvenient.

RedHelenB · 15/08/2022 09:46

Not worth getting het up about imo. You can always just not answer the door.

Scepticalwotsits · 15/08/2022 09:54

Speak to the taxi firm.

im guessing they use your address as that’s where they would have to go to collect it based on where they live.

they are not being CF to do this but they should say it’s at the road by house number x not that it is house x and that they are through the passage way.

isnit possible that they are late for the taxi because the driver didn’t send the notification because they were right outside what they thought was the address

Meraas · 15/08/2022 09:55

Taxi drivers shouldn’t be blocking your drive! Get angry at the neighbour and drivers.

Mamma23 · 15/08/2022 10:02

Sswhinesthebest · 15/08/2022 09:26

Just ring the taxi firm!

I don’t actually know which taxi firm it is but will nip out next time and get the name and number 😊

But they could have it pick them up outside their front door, they’re coming down their back lane to get the taxi. Where their front door is, is actually easier for the taxis to get to too- it’s a new build estate that’s like a maze!

Yeah, it’s not necessarily the taxis being outside our house, it’s more that the person ordering is obviously not making it clear that this is just where he wants picking up from and not actually his address.

Will go out next time and get the taxi number 👍🏻

Tell the taxi driver you have not ordered one and stop blocking your drive. Presumably then they will drive away and after this happens a couple of times, the neighbour will stop giving the incorrect address.

shazzybazzy34 · 15/08/2022 10:31

The absolute NECK of them!

GoldenGorilla · 15/08/2022 10:34

This is interesting.

I routinely get taxis from an address I don’t live at - it’s easy for me to get to from my regular appointment, it’s easy for the driver to find it, park and then get on to the route I want to go home. Weird one way system that is otherwise hard to navigate.

It’s never occurred to me that it could be a problem for the people that live there.

I’m always waiting outside, get in the cab right away, tip and don’t cause any problems so hopefully that’s ok? Or should I stop doing this?

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/08/2022 10:44

I used to live down a lane and order taxis to the nearest road. But when ordering I was clear that I wasn't at the address - I'd say 'the lane next to number 57 X road' as it was easier than explaining where on the lane we were.

It is entirely possible the booker is giving the address as 'lane next to...' but the drivers aren't getting that information.

Personally, I'd just wait for the booker to get their next taxi and politely explain the inconvenience to yourselves - ie appearing to have taxis booked to your address and faux concern that one day, the driver may leave without their passenger if it continues. As them to be clear in their booking that it's 'lane next to...' and take up the inconsiderate parking with the taxi company. As that's not the booker's fault.

Ah i miss understood where the house was, and thought I was down a passageway so there wasn’t a road by the front door.

yeah in this instance they are being CFs

Georgeskitchen · 15/08/2022 10:49

Next time just wait for the CF to appear for their taxi and tell them next time it happens tell them you will send the taxi away because uts nothing to do with you and you will continue to send the taxis away if it keeps occurring

Bunty55 · 15/08/2022 10:52

I bet they messed up at their own address and taxi firms won't pick up there which is why they are doing this.

Brilliant advice and the other comment about putting a sign on your door that you have not called a taxi! Getting the name of who ordered the taxis is great, but Data protection may prevent that. Either way, loads of luck OP.

LovelyDaaling · 15/08/2022 15:13

The person ordering the taxi should give their true address but request to be picked up at such-and-such location.

StopStartStop · 15/08/2022 15:24

I order taxis for 'opposite number X'. Quite often the taxi drivers assume I'll be at number X. This is after 25 years of telling them... they can't drive up to my house, there's no road. I can meet them at the end of the road, opposite number X.

LookItsMeAgain · 15/08/2022 15:29

I wonder if your neighbour would be charged a pound or two more for the collection from their actual address rather than getting the taxi from your address? Is it cheaper for them to have it pick them up from your address? Is it easier for the taxi to turn around at your address rather than at theirs?

These are the only reasons why I think anyone would repeatedly order a taxi from an address that isn't theirs.
