My neighbour won’t stop singing!

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 14/08/2022 12:38

I live in a detached house, but my garden backs onto another property which is a flat type house. Their windows open side on to my garden.

Whenever the weather is nice she sings. Not just normal singing, window open absolutely belting out songs. They’re always musical songs and I’m not talking an hour or two of singing. I’m taking 5-6 hours every day at full pelt.

The worst part, she thinks she’s an amazing singer. She’s mediocre.

I have wanted to enjoy my garden whilst the weather is nice but unless I wear headphones all I can hear is Susan Boyle in my garden like a private show. If I wear headphones I don’t hear the baby monitor when my little one is sleeping.

Yesterday I put Spotify on my phone, on full volume to see if it would drown her out. It didn’t make a dent.

AIBU to ask her to keep her singing to 2 hours a day when she has windows and doors fully
open? Other neighbours are also annoyed but haven’t said anything directly to her.

I would join in........ my singing isnt reliably good. I think she'd get the message pretty swiftly! 😂

PollyRockets · 14/08/2022 12:51

Download the xfactor buzzer app and press it every time

Hattieee · 14/08/2022 12:54

Sorry OP, but 😂

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/08/2022 12:54

Neighbourhood choir time.

ilyx · 14/08/2022 12:57

That’s so rude and embarrassing for her.

Frolicinameadow · 14/08/2022 12:57

I like the X factor buzzer idea.
Or a series of Simon cowells more withering put downs, then blast them on a speaker.

RainyDays22 · 14/08/2022 13:01

Sorry op my apologies, I'll sing louder tonight. Grin

SirChenjins · 14/08/2022 13:08

Download the sound of dogs howling and play it at full blast whenever she kicks off?

jammiewhammie65 · 14/08/2022 13:10

Shout out your not going to London

FAQs · 14/08/2022 13:11

If she has two boys and sings musical opera style, good luck, you’ll need it 👍

RayneDance · 14/08/2022 13:12

😂

Longdistance · 14/08/2022 13:13

Just shout out the window ‘STFU!’ If no one tells her, she’ll never know.

InquiringMinds · 14/08/2022 13:13

Please speak to Environmental Health and Citizens advice about this. We went through something similar and our neighbour was done for disturbing the peace. It’s your right to peace in your own home. I cannot write our experience here as I don’t trust the tabloids picking up the story. Too easily identifiable, however, OP you can get help and they keep your name out of it. First she will get a warning and if she doesn’t cease, they will take it further. I know this sounds extreme, but it’s actually not.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 14/08/2022 13:14

Fake a loud phone call to Simon Cowell that he needs to get over quick...

NellesVilla · 14/08/2022 13:14
  • Hold out a banner advertising the services of singing coaches “to get you in tune” etc.
  • Play the Benny Hill theme tune whenever she starts
  • As another p suggested, play “operatic” cats caterwauling to accompany her as back up singers
Moonface123 · 14/08/2022 13:15

l would knock at door and with a concerned expression ask if everything is ok as sounds like someone is in alot of pain.

OriginalUsername2 · 14/08/2022 13:15

Susan Boyle! 😂You poor thing. Hasn’t anyone shouted out “Give it a bloody rest!” yet?

TidyDancer · 14/08/2022 13:20

A colleague had a complaint about her DD's singing a few years ago although the situation wasn't so extreme (and the DD could actually hold a tune). She had the complaint via their community Facebook group.

If you complain (and I agree that you should) make it directly to her. She might be annoying (and I'm sure my colleague's DD was as well to some degree) but public humiliation is a step too far imo. I'd give her a chance to calm it down first. I'm not usually an advocate of anonymous notes but maybe this would be a kinder option.

Varoty · 14/08/2022 13:24

I would start by speaking to her or dropping her a note. Then I’d blast her with a stupidly huge speaker whenever she opens her mouth. You can get massive ones from Costco for under £100, it’s well worth the investment.

Notanotherwindow · 14/08/2022 13:26

Join in. Every time. As loudly and out of tune as you can. Encourage neighbours to as well.

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 14/08/2022 13:27

I’m howling at some of your replies. Thankfully we are moving house next month so I don’t care enough to file any form of complaint.

She’s also a really nice person and if anyone said anything she’d probably have a complete meltdown and be depressed for months on end. I think sadly the guy opposite fancies her and once said he loved hearing her singing and she’s taken that as ‘we all love your singing’.

I’m tempted to get the buzzer out 😂my partner is very chill about these things and would never say anything but even he came down and said ‘it’s like being front row in the west end today!’

ErmineAndPearls · 14/08/2022 13:28

@Twobecomingthreeplusthedog I don’t think we can judge this without hearing a sample of the singing. Can you record her, please, and give us a link to the audio clip?
I would put a note through her door and if that had zero effect, I would actually call the police, just to ask for advice. This is noise pollution.
