Ride operators at theme park.

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2022 20:52

So went to a theme park today with ds and his friends.

It was a lovely day and very quiet compared to usual visits this time of year.

I don't do lots of rides - I'm happy to bag sit!

But use a few and tend to do my favourite 2-3 times.

The last time we went on this ride today the operator was checking the seat belts. This is usual. Then didn't even look or communicate with me but pushed the overhead barrier down so hard I couldn't get a proper breath in and it's left one of my nipples very sore (bruised?)

Ds and I were both waving to get the attention of attendants but they didn't notice and by the time I got to the end I was really dizzy from struggling to breathe and the pain in my breast (I'm not exactly huge!)

As I got off the ride I went more dizzy so sat down on the step. Ds explained to the man about the breathing and his advice?

"If you need first aid there's a centre at x point" (over 300m away from where I was sat unable to stand up.

I did retort if I was well enough to stand up I wouldn't need to walk to first aid.

I reported to park management team wandering around but he said he can't do anything. To which I said - well he could report it but I'll be emailing because both situations were unacceptable and I know it's not the norm as I visit a lot and use that ride a lot.

I guess not really AIBU because I'm not - but I guess am I being unreasonable to think that's bad training re sending people almost passed out alone to walk to first aid?

OP why post an AIBU if you're just going to disagree with everyone who says you are?

I once went on a ride where the seatbelt wasn't down far enough and I was slipping out the entire time. You alert the right people and they do something about it to make sure it doesn't happen to someone else. You don't argue with strangers on the internet who disagree with you, after asking for their opinion. Weird.

Within 40 minutes on this thread your breast went from bruised? to severely bruised. I reckon if it was severely bruised you would have mentioned it in the OP and not when the thread wasn't going your way.

Bruised / severely bruised. Same thing. I just didn't add the severe description to the OP🤷‍♀️

Anyway MN at its best here.

People just like to put the boot on with people. Perhaps they haven't managed todays heat?

But I know what happened and I know it's not usual practice having used this park frequently.

Once I was ok I stood up and went for a coffee!

I didn't need first aid - luckily

Then what is the whole point of this thread? If you didn’t need first aid what is the point in complaining about the 2 staff members?

It clearly wasn’t an emergency.

You have a bruise? Bruises are expected when going on rollercoasters where you will be thrown a round a little due to the G-force.

Would you rather the safety barrier be too loose? For you to fall out mid-ride? Ending up dead?

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2022 21:56

Itisasecret · 12/08/2022 21:50

I can’t see how they shoved it so hard on checking it caused severe bruising. It should already be down and locked in at that point. I was at a theme park this week and they literally had about 30s to check all harnesses. It wouldn’t have gone down any further as my boobs were already firmly tucked in.

Did you block the ride from running afterwards? Then bum shuffle off? Sounds a bit OTT.

It was down and locked.

She checked the seat belt went to walk away and then shoved the overhead bit down really forcefully.

I literally have no idea why 🤷‍♀️ it was already as tight as it normally is!

Sirzy · 12/08/2022 21:57

So by your own admission you where fine. I’m not sure what the issue was really!

Sobloodydone · 12/08/2022 21:57

It does sound like he did it really hard but I half can’t blame ride staff. Theyre getting a lot of shit at the minute about ride safety so they probably all shove it extra hard to ensure it’s secure

GhostCastle · 12/08/2022 21:58

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2022 21:37

I think this is it OP. You weren’t expecting the force of how hard she pushed the head rest down. It shocked you, not severely injured you.

Unfortunately it has injured me. I have a very bruised breast which I shall send (an appropriate!) picture of with my email.

It was so forceful my ds actually looked shocked and asked if I was ok.

At first I laughed and said I'd probably just shrink a cup size or 2. It became less funny when I realised it was so tight I couldn't get a breath in because I could expand my chest.

But I did breathe slowly and calmly. I didn't panic because I'm a first aided myself and know how to deal with situations like this .

Sad thing is it's out me off going again. There was absolutely no need for what she did.

You are going to send a photo of the bruise on your breast?! Seriously you need to get a grip. You didn’t need first aid and went for coffee after. I have been bruised on rides. It happens on some types of ride. I went to a theme park this week. Had sore thighs after one ride. My harness was super tight when it locked in. I’d rather be on the secure side and be safe. Get over it.

Irridescantshimmmer · 12/08/2022 21:54

You may have gone into shock, caused by the pain from the barrier being forcibly rammed into you.

The experience sounds quite concernung and if this happened to another person, none of us would know if they would be better or worse off than you were .

You may want or find an organisation which governs or awards licences to these 'organisation' which I think may be a council or local authority and complain to them. You may also want to speak to environmental health at your local council to see if any action can be taken against this parasitic induvidual and the organisation he works for.

You recieved injury at the hands of a prejudiced induvidual who delibratly caused you harm and this is absalutely disgraceful, he showed blatant dissregard for your safety.

It wasn't quite that bad!

But I do want them to make sure staff are trained properly and to take sue care and attention when pushing down barriers and if they have a member of public complaining of dizziness to deal with it properly and with sue care and attention.

I was fine. I'm a first aider and medically trained in other ways so could risk assess myself when Ok to move.

But if someone else couldn't and tried to climb the stairs out of the building and passed out they could actually end up in trouble as a company .

On what grounds have some people decided that OP isn't giving a reliable account of what happened to her? She knows whether she's bruised and the severity of it.

She's familiar with the rides and the normal way they are run.

It's not unusual to call over a First Aider to make sure someone can be assessed and escorted to the First Aid facility if necessary. I'd be surprised if this isn't SOP for a theme park.

I assume it was quite obvious that she was with a young boy with disabilities and might expect a little more care, consideration, and assistance than the typical theme park visitor.

Scianel · 12/08/2022 22:01

Why are you all being such cunts to the OP?

Whattodoaboutworknow · 12/08/2022 22:01

Absolute bullies on this thread tonight!!!

Hopefully none of them get a job in customer service or safety.

Because it's MN AIBU.

It's standard practice WinkGrin

I think it's the bit where OP got up and went for a coffee after. It rather eliminates any severe injury.

FlissyPaps · 12/08/2022 22:05

Giving honest opinions is not “being cunts”.

The OP herself says after 5 minutes of bum shuffling and sitting down she was fine and went for a coffee. No need for first aid.

She is going to email a picture of her severely bruised breast to the park…. I’m sorry but that’s just extreme and very dramatic.

With each post the story gets even more dramatic.

She lives to tell the tale. It really isn’t a big deal. People need to toughen up.

Scianel · 12/08/2022 22:06

Maybe people should try that then, instead of being cunty?

FlissyPaps · 12/08/2022 22:09

No one has been “cunty”. It’s an online forum. OP asked if she’s being unreasonable, a lot are responding with “yes, your are being inreasonable and dramatic”.

If anyone thinks that’s being cunty then wow you need to live in the real world.

I never said I had a severe injury.

I've got a severely bruised breast (and sore nipple Confused).

But the point was when I was dizzy (for whatever reason that was) it really is bad practice to suggest I stand up and walk to a first aid centre up a flight of stairs and 300m away.

I'm trained enough to have dealt with it myself. What if the next person isn't?

Your experience sounds horrible,
going through a ride in pain and worrying you can’t breathe properly. Sorry others aren’t being more understanding.
You may well have had a
panic attack due to the shock
of it. Bad they didn’t call first aid. 💐

I did ask previously why you didn't just say that you needed him to get someone

This thread is a prime example of people just not believing a woman when she says she is in pain or has been hurt

I didn't panic.

Despite people being convinced I did!

But I know what panic attacks are like. When my mum was dying of cancer I woke up with them quite frequently. They are scary.

I was just unable

I was just unable to even get a deep breath in slowly and for some reason when I stood up I went dizzy.

I said I couldn't stand up because i was dizzy and he told mes I needed to move because he needed to close the gates.

Hence why I bum shuffled up some steps until it passed.

Once it passed I was fine.
