Nursery Temporarily Shut

My chidren’s nursery messaged me on Thursday night saying they were having to shit down immediately for at least 6 weeks due to a safeguarding issue. I have read the Ofsted report and it looks like there is lack of training and policies.
My children love going there and I have never had any concerns over their safety however, I am no without my childcare and they are attending a nursery with adequate scores. A local nursery have said they will wait list them. My question is.. is it unreasonable for me to move their nursery, it is a small family business and I don’t want to let them down.

Why on earth would it be unreasonable to move them to another nursery? Of course you should.

Their current nursery have failed in the basics and you've been left with no childcare with no notice, absolutely you should move them.

Of course it isn't unreasonable 🤨

RunnerDuck2020 · 12/08/2022 20:40

There must be some pretty serious issues if they’re having to close down immediately for six weeks - I would definitely be moving.

Rosebel · 12/08/2022 20:47

Not unreasonable at all. I think I know the nursery in question as it sounds very similar.
Training and watertight policies are two of the most basic things for a nursery. Shutting it even on a temporary basis is drastic and unusual.
I would move my children as I just wouldn't feel confident in leaving them there after that. Also would you (assuming you work) or other parents be able to take 6 weeks off work?

FlissyPaps · 12/08/2022 20:49

Letting down a small family run business should be the least of your worries when they have obviously failed some safeguarding issues. That’s massive OP. Very concerning.

Amichelle84 · 12/08/2022 20:51

Your children should be your priority not the nursery...

Littlefish · 12/08/2022 20:51

Just another point - if either of your children uses 2 year old funding, they won't be able to get it until the Nursery is back to a 'good' Ofsted grade.

BlueMoon23 · 12/08/2022 20:52

Absolutely move them. They may not open back up and then you will be left without childcare even longer

chatterbug22 · 12/08/2022 20:55

It takes an awful lot for them to have to temporarily close. Really!

Heckythump1 · 12/08/2022 20:56

I would move them... a chain of nurseries near me had this happen to them and never reopened.

Bluub · 12/08/2022 20:57

There's one near me in the papers for similar.. I'd move. Its not safe.

Thanks for your replies. I knew that’s what I needed to do, just needed some support to send the message to withdraw them.

I imagine they will be expecting everyone to send the message
