To re arrange beach trip

Have a beach trip planned tomorrow with family. I have checked weather for where we are going and it's going to be 28 degrees. I have a 7 month old and think that will be to hot for baby. Family member also has baby but said we will be fine as we have sun shade parasol, will apply plenty of sun cream and give plenty of water. Would you still go with baby and those predicted temperatures?

No I wouldn't go unless you have a pop up tent with UV protection. Plus the beach will be rammed

XelaM · 12/08/2022 07:19

Yes. 28 is not THAT hot and there is usually a sea breeze

DesignerRecliner · 12/08/2022 07:22

You'll be fine as long as you have sun shade & ensure sand doesn't get in baby's eyes. Park facing away from the sun with a parasol, and have a pop up UV beach tent (they're usually available on the seafront if you don't have one)

We're away in south cornwall and the weather is gloriously hot but we're having to be vigilant with DC's sun exposure & fluid intake.

28 is fine with shade

Harridan1981 · 12/08/2022 07:23

For what?

DSGR · 12/08/2022 07:25

yes I’ve done these temps with babies before on holiday. Keep them in the shade, apply suncream and feed often with fluids. It’s fine

Thanks everyone for replying. Think im just being an over thinking mum Wink

No I personally wouldn’t

Ducksurprise · 12/08/2022 07:32

Best thing I bought for the beach was a tent that was factor 50 shade. It was a pop up.

People go abroad and don't second guess going to the beach.

maddy68 · 12/08/2022 07:32

Go. You are being a bit daft. Just make sure that baby has shade

Playplayaway · 12/08/2022 07:33

It's not the heat that would put me off, it's the crowds and the traffic.

Same here. I wouldn't entertain the idea with a young baby. Best to be indoors. I am sure there's advice online about sun safety with babies.

LIZS · 12/08/2022 07:38

No I wouldn't go, inside a uv tent will be hotter than outside. Beaches are very exposed and dry sand/pebbles hold the heat and can burn to touch.

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 12/08/2022 07:39

For goodness sake! Has no one ever been to the beach on holiday? 28 degrees is absolutely fine if you have shade

NCHammer2022 · 12/08/2022 07:39

I wouldn’t have done, and didn’t go anywhere that hot on holiday with a baby either. Apart from anything else, the beach will probably be packed.

LilyMarshall · 12/08/2022 07:42

I wouldnt have taken my baby to sit on a beach in that weather. It sounds miserable and hard work.

also, not all beaches are constantly packed. I was on a sandy beach yesterday all afternoon and it wasn't at all packed.

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 12/08/2022 07:43

I'm on a Mediterranean holiday..like the ones millions of Brits go on every year to seek out 30+ temperatures including babies, but when we get anywhere above 25 in the UK it's apparently dangerous to set foot outside. OP it's fine, take sunscreen, shade and hydration and have a lovely time.

MacKenzieMcHale · 12/08/2022 07:47

Beach, shade, breeze, water? It's literally what most holidays consist of. It'll be fine.

lickenchugget · 12/08/2022 07:49

Yes! Breeze will be great, water, sand. Take shade and SPF - 28 is not that hot, just like a normal summer holiday.

Holidayy · 12/08/2022 07:51

Of course I'd go to the beach. It's a baby not an ice cube.

But....pickle 🤢

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 12/08/2022 07:55

I would. We're on a UK holiday currently. The sea breezes have cooled the beach down so it's the most comfortable place. We mistakenly took a trip an hour inland yesterday to visit a garden and it felt so much hotter. Pick up a windbreak or umbrella for shade and have a lovely time.

cavebaby · 12/08/2022 07:58

Get a beach tent big enough to put a tiny paddling pool in then you can fill it with sea water and baby can splash about in the shade. At that age DD just wanted to eat the sand but the water was more of a hit.

I don't think 28 is that hot and 7 months isn't a tiny baby. Take plenty of hydrating snacks for little one like cucumber and watermelon, lots of sips of water and a sunsafe suit and hat. You can't sit inside all summer :(

Dibbydoos · 12/08/2022 08:04

You should get a sea breeze - buy a portable fan anyway and go it'll be nice for you all. Make sure you have UV protection and enjoy x

TakeYourFinalPosition · 12/08/2022 08:05

Yes. It’s been 28 degrees here for a few days and I have an 8 month old - he’s been fine. It’s hotter than that in lots of places and the mums and babies are absolutely fine. And there will be a lovely breeze on the beach!

The only thing that’d make me think twice would be how busy the beach is likely to be, not the temperature.

Take water, prepare for extra feeds, lots of suncreen cream, something to share baby, and have fun 🙂
