Staring down the barrel of massive bills. Have recently moved and not finalised my suppliers.

Need electricity only, not gas (heat pump in house)

Finding it all very confusing

Who is best to sign up with? Anyone found any great deals?

Shitting it

There are no great deals.
Who is the supply currently with? Probably best sticking with them on the standard variable rate

Is there an issue with Eon?
Will bulb let you transfer the account?

Don't stay with your current supplier until you've looked at the rest. Get onto Money Saving Expert and their energy comparison guide. Also, you don't have to pay by DD (which the energy provider can put up on a whim) pay instead by standing order which you control.

Don't forget Bulb effectively went bust and last I checked were still in Special Administration. Octopus Energy were the only remaining party interested in taking them over a few weeks back. Not sure if anything has moved on since. With our zombie government probably not.

its a difficult one - going on standard variable might save you something now, but you have to hedge in potential rises every three months with the cap reviews and it only going up at the moment. Demand is higher in winter as well so unlikely prices will drop over the next 6 months

how much they will be who knows at this point if you fix you could be over paying if you dont fix you could end up with bills getting higher and higher every three months

hedgehoglurker · 11/08/2022 16:35

You have to set up an account with the current, deemed supplier at the property. Once you have done this, you are free to move. (Unless your previous supplier has an agreement for you to transfer the account.)

Your energy costs what it costs, if how you pay makes any difference, direct debit is usually cheaper. You could just set a direct debit to what you would have set a standing order to, and have the best of both worlds. I'm not sure why people think you have to pay what the company asks, I've never had any problem setting my direct debit to what I've wanted it to be. (But I've also never tried to set it to an amount so low it wouldn't cover my use.)

Getoff · 11/08/2022 16:51

If the company changes your direct debit to a number you don't like, just change it back. Assuming you really do know better than them how much you need to pay to cover your energy usage, on average over the year.

If the actual problem is that you can't afford the energy your using, that settiong your payments too low is just burying your head in the sand and getting into debt, regardless of whether you use standing orders or direct debits to underpay.
