A car insurance one?

Anyone work in insurance or know about these things?

If you have a bump in the car do you pay separately or go through your insurance?
I hit a car today, nobody was hurt etc, just a little bit of scratching. The driver was in the car and I gave him all my details. I also informed my ins company when i got home. All was civil etc.
He is going to go through the insurance company to get his car put back to the original condition but I am not as the damage to mine was less and I wont bother possibly just touch it up myself .
I thought that would be it, but he contacted me to say that he wonders if I want to pay out my own pocket to avoid my premium going up next year which no doubt it will.

I dont know if i should do that, is this common, i think id rather let the insurance company deal with it and pay for it and then worry about the rise next year. Isnt this what you have insurance for?

Any tips/advice/ what do you do?

You've already notified your insurance company so I'd let them deal with it

You can go through insurance for his side of the claim and not claim for your own car. You would have up to 3 years to claim if you changed your mind.
I would go through insurance if his car is particularly expensive as if there are any issues with the repair, then your insurance would sort it out. For example, I dealt with a claim where the paint work bubbled and it was a costly job to redo. You wouldn't want him pestering you if it went wrong and he wanted you to sort it. Just my opinion.

If you use insurance for either or both cars, your premium will increase and you will have to declare for up to 5 years. If your NCB is protected and you've not had a claim before you can still protect it.

He wants to pocket your money and get the repair done on the cheap or not at all. Go through your insurance company, it’s what you pay them for.

Don't do it. Use the insurance you pay for. Of your premium goes up then so be it, you did hit someone so that's not unfair.

Don't trust the word of a stranger.

You have already informed your insurance so your premium will go up anyway. You have done the right thing. Let your insurance handle it.

Thanks.

100% go through your insurance company - that's what they're there for.

I wouldnt want to get involved tbh. I have heard of private arrangements but tell him to go through his insurance company.
