Kids in swimming pool

The temperature is late twenties, possibly rising to 30C. My DP and I have set up the swimming pool for our 3 young children, who are 3, 2 and 1. I want the swimming pool in the shade, whilst my partner thinks the opposite. AIBU?

My kids have been in pools in full sun on holidays with 35c temps and full sun

never burnt ( use cream, sun suits etc?) they’re in pool for bit, then out for bit, then in a bit etc all
day long

I wouldn’t put a pool in the shade

You saw the ages right, and this includes a one year old and you’re recommending the parent puts them in this heat in full sun?

Usual advice is to avoid being in the sun between 11 and 3

If it’s a proper swimming pool not a teeny paddling pool then I’d definitely put it in the sun. I’ve never once seen a pool in the shade, wouldn’t it be unpleasantly freezing? Sunscreen, hats, UV suit for the baby and avoid over lunchtime when the sun is strongest.

Sun! The pools aren’t in the shade abroad?! This is why children wear sun swim hats, suncream and su safe protection clothing. Enjoy!

sun- with a huge garden umbrella while they're actually in it- or under a gazebo where you can fold back the roof as required

Blossomtoes · 11/08/2022 13:00

Shade.

Sun, unless this is heated, but full body sunsuits including hats (the kinds that comes with the suits with a visor & neck brim) plus suncream on any exposed skin eg hands/feet/face.

Even on a hot day children get cold fast in unheated water in shade.

Most babies and children in the UK wear full body UV sunsuits in water & on beaches. They won't overheat in water.

Put it up first thing on the bit of garden with sun in morning and shade in the afternoon. Children go in in the afternoon when the water is warm but the pool is in shade.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 11/08/2022 13:09

Considering the very young age of your children definitely in the shade. I would either put the paddling pool in the sun for a bit before they go out to play or add a bit of hot water to make sure the water isn’t too cold for them. They’re too little to be sat out in the sun during heat like this.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 11/08/2022 13:17

In the sun to warm it, then a patio umbrella to keep the pool in shade when you’re using the pool. Keep moving the umbrella to keep the pool in shade as the sun moves across the garden.

Keep a t-shirt or rash vest on in the pool and sun hats & SPF 50 cream, applied hourly or more, which anyone should be doing in the garden anyway. And no exposure between 11-3pm.

My daughter has a UVA & UVB allergy, doing this kept her safe when she was small.

Shade! Your children are babies. It's not advised to let them play in direct sunlight when it's this hot.

annoyedneighbour1 · 11/08/2022 13:18

If they were 7, 8 and 9 it would be a bit different.

Janball · 11/08/2022 15:17

Over the top or what if they have cream on hats on surely they can go in the pool in the sun the poor kids would be shivering
