To not understand how some people can be so unaware - fireworks

I don’t often read the local network pages, as mostly they are full of trivia, but a ‘trending’ post today caught my eye.

A woman had posted that she would be having fireworks tomorrow evening for a celebration, and warning people so they could take precautions with animals.

Whilst it is laudable for her to attempt to warn others of noises which might upset children and animals, I can’t understand how anyone can be so unaware of the current fire risk.

We are firmly within the area which has an Amber weather warning for severe heat, we have had no significant rain for weeks, and everyone’s grass is brown, etc.

The post has now been taken down as she was getting a lot of negative comments, but there is no way of knowing if she still intends to go ahead with her plans.

@tonystarksrighthand is being accurate about why people will be doing this, regardless of whether they are being sarcastic or not.

In very hot weather people will leave cars running to stay cool, this can't actually surprise people?

I saw someone on Tuesday evening having a barbeque on a parched area of grass. People are just very very stupid.

And then when I was walking back from my local railway station yesterday I saw three people sitting in their stationary cars with their engines running. Again, some people are just stupid and inconsiderate.

The air con doesnt run if you dont have the engine on and unfortunately these days many people have to have meetings in their cars on the way to and from appointments, I and my colleagues have to do this.

We cant have windows open because the nature of the meetings are confidential but also highly sensitive.

That might not apply in this case obviously

This just reinforces my view that only selfish fuckwits have their own fireworks displays. Fucking things should be banned from sale to the general public.

Yes they really should.

It's a gender reveal party? Poor baby, being born to such thickos for parents that would think having fireworks in the current climate situation is OK.

Oh don't be ridiculous. Wanting the aircon on is not a good enough reason to be polluting the atmosphere! If you need to make a confidential call you get out and walk to somewhere quiet and people-free!

What hope do we have to save the planet when people are so so so stupid and inconsiderate.

It's also illegal, but of course there is never a police officer around when you want one.

I was kind of hoping that the twin facts that it is illegal and is polluting the atmosphere (and that fuel is expensive) might have an effect. But clearly not. The planet is inhabited by idiots. We are doomed. I guess I already knew that.

I don't understand why its not illegal in weather conditions like that. In my country we have forest fire warnings when its hot and dry, which means you are not allowed to do anything with an open flame that could accidentally spread outside like BBQs (and fireworks are only allowed at new years eve anyway unless you have a special license from the fire brigade so you don't get fuckwits setting off fireworks whenever they want)

I agree, if there is no meaningful rain for x amount of time, BBQs and fireworks should be banned. I don't know what the x amount of time would be, I guess it might depend on whether it has rained a lot before the period of drought and what the temperatures are like. But it wouldn't be that hard for the government to set criteria.

@LumpyandBumps do you live in a village beginning with F? If so I saw that post and thought the same. Also, it annoys me how people let off fireworks, Chinese lanterns or balloons in honour of a deceased relative and think their grief entitles them to litter the countryside/harm animals/pose a fire risk. But I can't say anything because then I'm the baddie!

Hi, no the village in question begins with an H. It’s frightening that here is more than one person thought fireworks were a good idea.
