To want to go to Southend on Saturday during heatwave?

posting here for traffic mainly.

I live near Barking and I'm thinking of taking my 2 year old on a day trip to the beach in Chalkwell / Southend on Sea on Saturday. But it's going to be 35 *C !!

I haven't been to Southend in a while so I have no idea how busy it gets these days. Can people post their experiences? How busy are the c2c trains? Will the beach be completely packed?
will it the trip be a nightmare with a buggy?

thanks in advance.

:)

@Sandrine1982

Oh hell to the no! Just take her to a local park - walking distance, early-ish morning, like 9am, for an hour or two and then go home. Don't go on the train! Imagine if the train breaks down, and you're stuck on it for HOURS.

Also, spending ALL DAY on the beach when it's almost 100 degrees F. Just no. Especially with a toddler! It makes no odds that she has a buggy with a parasol! If you want to go to the beach because your toddler like to 'swim in the sea,' then go when the temperature is below 75 degrees F (below 26C.) Not like it is this week (and weekend.) There have been heat warnings, AMBER, bordering red. Why on EARTH would you take your toddler to the beach this weekend?

You're bonkers.

There is an amber weather warning in place and advice to keep vulnerable people/children out of the heat. Your 2 year old would fall into that category. Children overheat very quickly so I'd be cautious about taking her to the beach l, better stay in the cool.

Surely being from a hot country you know parents typically know enough NOT to have their 2 year old out in the sun at the hottest time of day? Pure selfishness on your part to take her.

My idea of hell, a scorching beach and hoards of people. Why would you want to drag a 2 year old along with you? 🤷🏼‍♀️

LtJudyHopps · 11/08/2022 11:25

Well it will be cooler at the coast than in Barking so I don’t think it’s a bad idea. However Southend is just not what it used to be. I’d go somewhere else - how about Leigh on sea? Or Walton on the naze?

We would go around 10am and head back about 5 or 6pm.

I know 35*C is hot. I come from a country that gets similar temperatures regularly. Daughter would have a shaded buggy .. parasol .... we'd be swimming... otherwise in shade...

But I'm still not sure if this is all a good idea..

That's because it's not.

Holland on sea is so much nicer
