To want my toilet fixed?

We had a problem with toilet last week, it was continually flushing all night. Insurance wouldn't cover it under home emergency as the toilet wasn't overflowing and damaging the house.

We called a plumber round on Thursday, and they managed to turn the water off in the toilet so the flushing stopped. He said it needed a new diaphragm (although it was only changed last year). He didn't have the right size one for the model so he said he would have to order the part and it would be in on Friday.

I messaged Friday and asked if it's in, and got a reply late in the evening to say it will be in Monday. I heard nothing on Monday so I messaged in the evening to ask if the part is in and does he know when they can come and fix (so I can be sure someone is in). He said it's still not in but will be in on Tuesday. I've heard nothing since and it's now been a week.

I know they will have other jobs and customers but I'm getting a bit fed up. We do have another working toilet but I would like the other fixed ASAP. My partner thinks I am being impatient and pestering the guy but I'm wondering if he actually wants to do this work and whether it's worth asking someone else to fix?

AIBU to not want to wait weeks to have my toilet fixed?

Can you order the part yourself? They're usually quite easy to fix.

ImWell · 10/08/2022 20:46

It’s a ten minute job to do yourself. I’d give up on waiting, but one from B&Q, and just get on and fix it.

dehloh · 10/08/2022 20:50

B&Q and you tube is your friend

Give up on the messages, pick up the phone an call the plumber.

Lots of plumbers are fully-booked and struggling to fit in the time for the fussy little jobs. Buy the spare part from Plumb-fix or any plumbing supplies store (loads of them around) and then look on You Tube for how to do it yourself. Or call out an emergency plumber and pay emergency plumber prices.

Forgive my ignorance but every time the toilet flushes doesn't it cost in the water bill?
If I'm wrong then disregard me but I can understand that OP wants the issue fixed ASAP.

@pattihews

It was 4 months ago

Ultimate Zombie thread.. or OP hasn’t flushed her loo since August??

?

Why the question mark?

One would assume this has been resolved since it happened 4 months ago!

IconicKitty · 06/12/2022 16:00

The loo has been fixed- thanks all!
