At the price of groceries in America?
I’m in New York (state not city) for work and it’s crazy- made me feel better about the price rise in the UK.
Some examples in Target (not a high end store as far as I’m away), loaf of bog standard bread $5, box of cereal $7, tea bags $7, pack of biscuits $7. We just bought stuff for lunch, not much at all and it was $70, would have been about £20 in Aldi.
I feel so naive!

That must be partly to do with it being New York. It's nowhere near as expensive where I live (NC and we have an Aldi) although the price of PG Tips is enraging!

Shhh lots of posters think the cost of living crisis is only happening in the UK.

My sister lives in America (Florida) and she’s been saying for a while that good prices are getting crazy. She went to LA for a bit to see friends and couldn’t believe how much groceries were but she also has
a massive amount of land (she’s a single mum with not much income) because housing is cheaper where she is so she and her neighbourhood all grow a lot of produce and she said local towns etc mostly have farmers markets where things can be cheaper because it’s easier to grow produce there

Prices in NYC are not a fair reflection of prices elsewhere in the US. NYC is very expensive.

GyozaGuiting · 10/08/2022 19:56

Maybe it’s worse in up state New York then! Will definitely be trying to find a farmers market if they’re cheaper then.

@RusholmeRuffian I’m not anywhere near New York City. It’s a giant state bigger than England!

The average salary for my job is $108,000 in NY (according to Google), it’s £60,000 here.

I know how big NY state is. Clearly I don't know how to read when I'm tired though! Sorry about that.

No we think it is compounded in the UK. Which it is.

TheFlis12345 · 10/08/2022 20:42

What @Eaglelanding said. My DH has a colleague in NY who does the exact same job as hi. but the other guy is paid 2.5x DHs salary as that is just the going rate there.

It was £10 to buy a lettuce in Sydney when we were over there recently.
