Where to go in the heatwave this weekend?

We are visiting family in South Hampshire this weekend so don't want to spend the whole time indoors but obviously quite worried about spending much time in the sun when it's going to be so hot, particularly on the Saturday. We were originally going to go to the beach, which will feel cooler, but is very exposed and I don't think any amount of sun cream and hats will be sufficient. Any ideas what we can do instead to still have a good time but without being in the sun for very long?

How about heading to somewhere like Knoll Beach near Swanage where there's a beach, but also trees that you could take a break in?

We've spent most of today in a proper Victorian era museum with big old walls. Lovely and cool.

I'm supposed to be driving down to the south coast to see family but am seriously reconsidering it, I think the roads will be rammed as will the beaches.

I'd consider cancelling too but we only go once a year and can't rearrange now, so it'd be a massive disappointment for everyone. I'm quite happy about the drive down there as we'll be comfortable in the car with the a/c on. It's just the rest of the time I'm worried about.

I think the kids would spend most of the time paddling in the sea and wouldn't stay under the trees for long.

Head to the New Forest. Plenty of natural shade and beautiful! If you have young children Moors Valley is great.

Ellingham show is on Saturday, at Somerley Park near Ringwood. It's a lovely old fashioned country show, there are plenty of trees to shade under
