Would you ever park across someone’s driveway?

Even if it was just for 5 minutes?

I live on an old street so the road is narrow and I’d say 25% have drive for 1 car.

The amount of people that park across my driveway is insane - neighbours, deliveries, work vans.

I also don’t live near a school. But I just find the entitlement quite shocking that people think this is in anyway ok. Yet so many do it.

but I can't really see why you would ever need to park, you just walk a bit further if there isn't space exactly where you want

What if you had to drop off something really heavy and the only available space was across a driveway, would you really walk another 200 metres?

In that scenario i would knock and ask if it was ok to block the drive for 10/15 mins. Not just park up and leave.

I think @Mochudubh was asking @quicklybeendrivenmad , @TenoringBehind

Yes, I quoted wrong post, sorry!

I do love these CF stories. I once had a black cab driver park on my drive. I parked across it and blocked him in and then went inside.

He thought that by banging on the door and saying 'Now look love' was a way to get me to move. Sadly he was wrong. He called the Police and a PCSO turned up. The PCSO suggested he apologise for inconveniencing me as that might just work. Cabbie did so and I moved the car.

Ah, that makes more sense. 🤣

Lol, you div 😂we've all done that

Mississipi71 · 10/08/2022 21:27

I bought no parking signs for my wall and paid for a H bar. It worked. I was sick of ignorant and/or thick ppl taking the piss. The worse culprits were those who said I had enough room to get round their cars.

Next door moved and the removal van parked across my drive. I can see the logic as you’re not going to walk up and down the street multiple times carrying heavy furniture.

But it was extremely rude of the neighbours and unprofessional of the removal people to not just knock and ask if it’s ok as they were there for around 3-4 hours.

The worst was when I asked a different neighbours plumber to move his van (parked across my drive but left theirs free?) and he said “can I not wait for him to finish” - no I fucking can’t.

Are they allowed to block your drive if you have a dropped kerb but no car? We get hemmed in so that the bins can't be taken out on bin day, I think they assume because there's no car on the drive we don't need to access our own drive 😠

Ponderingwindow · 11/08/2022 03:01

Aside from a situation where someone was literally dying and still had to park there to save them, Not even if I am visiting the person whose drive I am blocking, because it contributes to a culture of people blocking drives.

depends - I might pull in to, for example, check my phone for directions if I got lost, or, yes, possibly for a delivery, but only if there were no other options, and I either remained in my car or was within a metre or 2 of it (e.g. the distance to walk to door to deliver, come back), so I could move immediately if needed. I can't really see how someone blocking your drive for however long a delivery takes (30 secs?) has a negative effect on someone tbh, and don't care when people block my drive for this. Anything where you are out of sight of your car, so not available to move immediately if needed, is u, but otherwise I wouldn't care.

This!

Honestly OP, pay the council to get the H bar painted. It was the talking point in my street when I did it. How dare I be so bold as to remind ppl that they needed to leave my drive clear. After I had that done, I had no problems. I experienced all the same as you. The removal people,in your case, were pig ignorant. I also had water works vans block my drive to do work. I went out 10 minutes later and advised them it was a good job I wasn't going out as I found out they would be there for the day.

Whippetquick · 11/08/2022 10:16

I've hot a dropped kerb and White lines people ignore it. Some people think it's OK to park on foibles yellows so says it all

Whippetquick · 11/08/2022 10:20

Double yellows obviously 🙄

Proudboomer · 11/08/2022 10:21

only dickheads think it’s ok to park across a driveway and block it. I am not a dickhead so no I would never do it. Park further up and walk.

DilemmaDelilah · 11/08/2022 10:25

Yes I would and yes I have.... BUT only if someone is left in the car who can drive it AND I am/they are willing to move it at the very first sign that I will be needed to. And only for a few minutes. And only if there is absolutely no other choice.

hewouldwouldnthe · 11/08/2022 11:08

If it's a delivery van dropping off I wouldn't mind. A neighbour parking for an hour not on.
