Can I ask if you have a modest household income (for MN) of under 40K, how much do you spend each week on food?

Over 40k, about £150 a week, 2 adults 1 child

ReverseGiraffe · 09/08/2022 09:46

60k household 2 adults, 2 children ages 4 and 9. We spend £100 on the weekly shop, plus top-ups of around £40 and takeaway at £30ish.

MyneighbourisTotoro · 09/08/2022 09:46

Two adults, two children. We spend between 80-100 a week. Before all the price increases I was spending between 60-80.

2 adults 3 children. About £110 if you include milk delivery. If I’m more honest £140 by the time you do extra top ups.

CornishTiger · 09/08/2022 09:49

The main bulk is Aldi £60-80.

no alcohol.

Income is irrelevant. There could be a family on £50k with less spare cash each month after bills than a family on £25k.

Bubblebubblebah · 09/08/2022 10:08

Is it for your book?
I hope you don't put 40k income as low income🙈

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 09/08/2022 10:38

Slightly over 40k jointly, I would say we spent about £100 per week in the shop, sometimes more sometimes less but that's including meals out, booze and other stuff.
Also there's the weekly takeaway...

Rapunzel91 · 09/08/2022 10:42

We are over 40K and not under but I'll input anyway.

We are 2 adults, 1 preschool child, 1 large dog and 2 older primary school children who are here roughly 10 days a month all together (rest of the time older 2 are with their mum).

Weekly food shops are usually £110-130, which includes cleaning supplies and some toiletries, dog treats and alcohol. I'll eat with my preschooler in cafes/softplay roughly once a week for £5-10. We have a take away about twice amount, between £25-35 per time depending on if the older two are here. DP and I will eat at the pub maybe once a month, around £50-70. Then we will also go all 5 or 3 once a month and that will be around £60-100.
Often we will also do a run to the shop to top up milk/bread/yoghurts/crisps which will be under £15.

LynetteScavo · 09/08/2022 14:42

It wouldn't make any difference if we earned under or over 40k - I'd still spend the same on food. (My weekly shop would probably go down the more we earn as we'd eat out more, but I don't think that's what you're asking).
