Work won’t pay me as I can’t update my bank details

Examinerwithnomoney · 08/08/2022 16:05

In order to be paid, I need to log into a system and input my bank details, NI no, etc.

It won’t let me: just keeps saying there’s an error.

I have been back and forth so many times with them ‘you need to do this’ and me ‘but I can’t’ and them ‘well if you do this’ and me ‘but I can’t.’

This has now been ongoing for nearly an month and I’m wondering if I just need to accept I wont actually be paid Shock

Can you ask them to issue you a cheque? You can usually pay in a cheque on your banks app.

Gazelda · 08/08/2022 16:48

It doesn't sound as though you're stupid.
It sounds as though this is a common problem that others have experienced. What browser are you using? Try using a different one as previous posters have suggested.

monkeysox · 08/08/2022 16:49

If it's I Trent it's your email and 3rd party password.
Check your date of birth is in too.
Aqa haven't paid me either

FlamingoQueen · 08/08/2022 16:56

If it’s itrent, are you using the correct version? I only say this because there seem to be so many around and we had to click on a link sent by our employer, rather than googling it. Apologies, if you are already doing this, but I know a lot of people that struggle with it.

gotelltheoldmandowntheroad · 08/08/2022 17:00

Have they got a head office? Write to them, recorded delivery, provide your bank details and NI number and state that you give them 14 days to pay you what you are owed before you take legal action.

Legal action would be small claims court. How much is it?

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 08/08/2022 17:06

They still need to pay you. They can send a cheque or give you cash if needed.

Re. not being able to log on - have you done all the usual tricks? Cleared cache/cookies, new browser, made sure your caps lock isn't on etc?

Never been able to log in. I’m just fucking stupid I suppose.

hmmm. This is not a useful attitude..

Call IT, ask them to remote access your computer and watch you attempt to log on.

With an attitude like that I'm not surprised that you're struggling.

speakingofart · 08/08/2022 17:12

If it’s itrent, have you moved to multi factor authentication?

pastabest · 08/08/2022 17:18

Are you able to tell us which browsers you have tried op? A few of us have suggested this and it's the single most likely thing to be the problem.

if you are using internet explorer it just won't work no matter what you try or how many times you ring IT/HRR

Examinerwithnomoney · 08/08/2022 17:24

I’ll try chrome - will have to download it first. Weird they didn’t mention this (or perhaps not so weird given how difficult it has been.)

Well...(and don't get offended) I think there is an assumption amongst tech types that no one in their right mind would still be using internet explorer.

they forget there's a lot of people using home computers who won't have been included in mandatory updates on company owned equipment from whichever organisation they are linked with.

so when they are working through the issues with you it won't have been part of their consideration that the browser is the issue, because as far as they are concerned the browser you are using (if I'm right and it is internet explorer you have been using) doesn't exist any more.

Examinerwithnomoney · 08/08/2022 17:35

Not offended at all - but surely they are reasonably used to idiot teachers? Smile

What error message do you get?

DelisButAlsoCrime · 08/08/2022 17:44

Haha oh this is definitely Pearson Edexcel and bloody ADP Freedom.

You have to use Windows and Edge, and make it think it’s internet explorer.

Examinerwithnomoney · 08/08/2022 17:44

It just says my login details are incorrect but they aren’t!

OP posts:
DelisButAlsoCrime · 08/08/2022 17:46

Just seen your update - it sounds very similar to ADP though.

Do their terrible instructions say which browser to use?

LividLaVidaLoca · 08/08/2022 17:53

Examinerwithnomoney · 08/08/2022 17:44

It just says my login details are incorrect but they aren’t!

Have you specifically set up a third party password, using the instructions from an email several months ago?

This is different from your password for the other software.

Becky6758 · 08/08/2022 17:54

Can you send them a screenshot of the error message you are receiving?

Krustykrabpizza · 08/08/2022 17:56

Have you actually told HR/IT the error message and sent them a screenshot? Details like it's not working and it won't let me log in aren't really enough to find the issue

Becky6758 · 08/08/2022 17:56

My wage slips come through on ADP.

The website is a joke.

I can’t get it to work on my phone at all.

but it does work on my actual work computer using the Firefox browser.

Ilovewheelychairs · 08/08/2022 17:58

I get that message when they decide they want me to change my password (rather than just asking me to change my password!). I would click 'forgotten password' then set up a new one if you can?

TommySaid · 08/08/2022 18:02

I would definitely try a different browser like chrome and if it doesn’t work try a completely different computer like one at the library or your place of work.

My home PC is often a nightmare with things like this but using a different computer usually helps.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 08/08/2022 23:23

try different browser,
followed by different browser on different computer

document the things you try (not because they don't believe you but because it helps to figure out why it's not working)

If its entering a long complicated password they've made up for you check for the following:
a blank space you didn't notice (unlikely in a recurring error)
case sensitive - is something a lowercase letter when it should be a capital letter?
number / letter error is something a zero and you've entered a capital O (or vice versa)

JuneOsborne · 08/08/2022 23:30

I'd try and access it through chrome and even then, try an incognito window.

Can you reset the password? Or can't you even get that far?

Can you do anything from the email account registered to it? How did you get sent the original link?
