To silently seethe about neighbours weeds in my garden (pics)

They're growing over, under and through the fence.

I've been cutting them when they grow through for the last 2 years but this year they're growing like never before. Almost faster than I can cut them! I think the fence will end up damaged.

I last cut them 10 days ago and they look like this already. I don't have the time to keep up with it as well as my own garden.

They never use their garden and it's a complete jungle. The whole thing is covered with massive weeds and ivy.

The reason I haven't said anything yet is because whoever lived here before us planted conifers in the front garden. I keep them well trimmed on my side, but they don't cut it on theirs and it looks such a mess. I couldn't cut their side of it without going into their front garden. I think if I mention the weeds growing through the fence, they will just say 'but your conifer encroaches on our front!' And they would be right! Even though I didn't plant the damn thing! Gah!

You want to spray SBK brushwood killer on those, it should travel back down the stem and weaken them if not kill them

WithIcePlease · 08/08/2022 16:53

Came on to say SBK too
Make up in a spray bottle and apply regularly. Or mix conc glyphosate with ready made wallpaper paste and paint it on leaves regularly

Just here to check if it's my weeds that you're complaining about... not this time!

An ALTERNATIVE to weedkiller.

Glad I'm not the only one!

I can see that being really annoying. Maybe put a note through as others suggested if they're not the type to go off on you about that?

My neighbours and I all have plants that overlap each other's gardens, but I wouldn't think 'but your...' would be an appropriate response to this kind of issue. My hedges and trees at the front aren't the same as ivy going wild in the back, especially with it possibly damaging the fence (as interesting as the look is).

I rarely see one neighbour due to conflicting work schedules, but I was grateful when she asked if she could trim the hedges that lines her property side during last hectic summer when we moved in and trying to figure the garden out with surprise fruit trees and more. Right now, we're slowly working through the ivy and bramble at the back that has colonised a good chunk of the pond, one brown garden waste bin at a time. We've got most off the fence, but there is one section where there is only a tiny ledge between the pond and the fence that I'm feeling guilty I'm struggling to get to until the rest gets cleared. Digging out bramble is a nightmare.

If she asked to hack at them from her side, I would more than welcome it, it might be easier on flat ground, but if she sprayed weedkiller over the fence as others have suggested, that would be a big issue with the pond & likely wouldn't touch the masses it's coming from.

If you use a systematic weed killer like SBK you don’t need to spay their side as if you spray what’s on your side it will Tavel down to the roots and kill the whole plant. I would make up a big spray bottle full and spray it weekly until the whole thing dies back.

Yes and have a fine time fucking up the local bees.

FFS - do NOT use weedkiller.

That's the evil stuff I use, works very well. Years ago a neighbour went crazy when I started pulling out bindweed and attacking the roots, apparently his wife was very upset, she thought they were lovely flowers, idiot.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/08/2022 20:38

Bindweed can look nice in a hedge (pity it's not the gorgeous blue relative commonplace in parts of Europe). But it doesn't look good throttling other plants in our gardens - which may have been chosen for their own ability to support various wildlife.
