Is Europa Park any good?

Has anyone from the U.K. been to Europa Park in Germany? Did you manage to book a package deal, or is it a DIY? Does anyone know if there’s a ‘theme hotel’ like Disney has?
lastly, is it any good? Better than Disneyland Paris? Cheaper?

Have been a few times but never stayed in the themed hotels as they were really expensive as they would be in August.

Stayed in a local hotel in a nearby German town which was a fraction of the price. Also did us pack ups which saved a fortune although the food in the park is actually good and not too pricy like Disney.

Food loop is amazing and food is good. A destination experience restaurant.

Have also stayed in Colmar in France at a Novotel type place and driven to the park as not too far.

Europa Park is so much better than Disney we found. Shame it is so far away or we would go more.

If you are going at a cheaper time then the themed hotels do look good but I couldn't justify the price.

Jumping in to ask pp if you drove or flew?

I would also like to go, and would be flying....don't know where to...

We always drive as we combine it with a few weeks holiday.
Could easily spend 3 days in there doing it all leisurely and going on favourite rides over and over.
Have managed to do it in a day but we didn't need to go on younger children rides so could just focus on the rides appealing to teenagers.
Happy to answer any questions.

Agree with pp - stay outside the park. You'll likely to find much better value for money. DH and I combined a visit there with a roadtrip through the Schwarzwald years ago, and we wished that we had organised two days at the park because it was so huge. In the surrounding areas, you can find reasonably priced accommodation, however, much of it is a tourist spot also and prices reflect that. Wherever you fly to, I would take advantage of the €9 Deutsche Bahn ticket, but remember it doesn't include the faster ICE service.

I liked the park and the themed areas were really cool. We visited in the summer and I remember being quite surprised at how little waiting around we did to get on the rides. There was only the bigger rollercoasters that had longer waiting times, and even then, it was maybe 30-40 minutes. It is quite sprawling, so definitely plan what you want to do/see in advance.

If you've got older kids, though, I'd recommend Phantasialand further north. Much easier to get to from the UK and also a huge park with more thrill rides.

I went there in 1978. Loved it!

ShinyMe · 08/08/2022 15:02

I went there for a day when I was a student in Germany in... 1997? and it was absolutely fantastic then. Of course, it could have changed a lot, but I remember it as being significantly better than the UK equivalents. I really liked the space station sections especially.

Went years ago and was very good. Had two nights in the hotel and spent a full day at the park. Kids thought it was as good as Disneyland with better rides. It's 10 years on so it may have changed

gogohmm · 08/08/2022 15:17

Back then we got tickets through Tesco clubCard! It was cheaper than Disneyland or even Alton towers then

HolidaysAreComingIsh · 08/08/2022 15:23

Thanks, it sounds like it’s good! I’ll have a look at local hotels rather than the theme ones then :)

Yes it’s really good. There is also a new water park next to it - some company. Ruratlantica. I think it’s called. Also supposed to be good.

This thread is very timely as my friend and I are planning to take her 15 year old DD and my 7 year old DD to europa park in 2023. We’ve taken the girls on 3 daybreaks to Disney (not impressed) , Efteling (which we loved) and so this is next on our list.
we are keen to fly and not have to drive on the other side of the road - are there places locally we could stay outside the park without a car?
we can go any of the UK school holidays -we went to Efteling in the UK feb half term when Dutch schools were open so it was quiet - is this an idea for europa park? Any recommendations on where to stay/ how long to do for/ other theme parks to make a combined trip with would be appreciated please. We liked the idea of a cheesy Europe theme..

We've just got back. It's fabulous. We stayed at the on-site camping.
