To not understand my puppy's bladder habits?

We have just got a gorgeous puppy who is currently eight weeks old. He has been home for a few days now.

AiBU to not understand how he can hold his bladder overnight for eight hours and do a massive 6am morning wee. Yet do a mini wee on the floor many many many times during the day?

I am not bothered, as I understand that toilet training will take a while. Just wondering why the difference between night and day bladder habits.

We take him out every 30 minutes to the garden. Also 20 minutes after meals, and straight after he wakes from a sleep.

Sometimes he wees outside but more often than not he will wait until he is back inside and then wee.

Interested to read any answers.

Are you cleaning where he has weed inside before thoroughly and with a special cleaner ?

Sometimes it's just pure excitement that makes them wee.

Cleaning yes, special cleaner no.

However he is yet to wee in the same place twice inside so it isn't a habit yet!

Though outside we place him on the same spot to toilet in order to build a positive habit outside. (Cleaned between visits)

Sometimes it's just pure excitement that makes them wee.

Between our DC, DH and me there is a lot of excitement playing with the puppy, when he isn't sleeping in his crate.

Its amazing that he holds it overnight imo

Our puppy the same age wees in their crate overnight almost without fail. During the day she generally goes outside (occasional accidents aside). I find it is rarely a sudden accident though, more that i/we haven't noticed the (often subtle) signs that she is going to wee so couldn't get to her and get her outside in time

Desmopressin just like in humans the hormone that enables you to be dry at night.
He is not incontinent you are missing his cues during the day very common with new puppy owners. Out every 20-30 mins after every meal and when they wake up and in between you need to watch them like a hawk for the signs and whizz them out.

Ah, the hormone explains the difference then. Thank you.

We do take him out loads but he usually holds the wee until he is back inside. Nearly every puddle is created seconds after returning from a 'try' in the garden.

Puppy doesn't like garden or doesn't get that the garden is meant to be the toilet.

@BrimFullOfAsher I thought all puppies avoid weeing in their beds?

You need to use an enzymatic cleaner for each and every inappropriate wee or poo.

Your pup's sense of smell is 1000 times more sensitive than a humans. He is programmed to repeatedly soil/re-scent the same spot over and over.

Enzymatic cleaner and spray are easy to find in any pet shop. I think Flash even do one now.

Also the owner of a 8 week old puppy. She’s been with us 4 days now and for the first 2 she kept having wet accidents on the rug, always waited until she was outside for a poo tho.
Realised my mistake though, i should have been taking her out as soon as she woke up and more frequently through the day. She never peed on my hard floor, only ever on the rug.
I have removed the rug now and just constantly leave the door open so that way she takes herself out. 2nd day of doing this and no accidents so far thankfully since I have changed this

She has a bed in the crate and doesn't wee on that, but does on the puppy pad in there.
