3 girls, twins age 3 and another girl of 7. They literally go into their garden and scream and shout at the top of their lungs. They never go out despite us living near a huge park and woodland area. They just stay in the garden yelling their heads off often swinging off the washing line or winding each other up. Even as we walk up to to top of our road we can hear them yelling. It becomes even worse when their 2 aunts visit as they encourage them to sing loudly and rile them up even more. It's becoming unbearable and like I say, it's every day. With having the windows open because of the heat, it is even worse. It's really getting to me and DH. There is no way they cannot know how noisy they are being. Aibu to ask how we approach this?

Are you the only neighbour affected by the din?

Batmannequin · 06/08/2022 20:06

Sounds like the neighbours adjacent to me. Sounds like a whole playground of children in there but it's 3 girls. And they have a trampoline which they use all day everyday when the weather gets nice. Screaming their heads off the whole time. The parents are either completely oblivious to the noise or just don't give a shit.

One time (summer, when everyone had their windows open) it started at 5am. The creak of the trampoline followed by screams and shouts. I couldn't believe it and could barely dress myself in the rage I was in. By the time I'd managed to put on some trousers without angrily shoving both feet into the same trouser leg, I'd made it half way down the stairs when it stopped. The parents must've realised this was completely unacceptable and made them come in. I was about to be that crazy neighbour shaking her first at those darn kids.

Loud music with inappropriate lyrics. When the parents come round to complain, tell them that it's to drown out the noise of their children shrieking and there's a deal to be done somewhere.

Frankly, if I'd had twins DD's aged 3 and my DS aged 7 I would never have left the house either! It would have been a nightmare to say the least. Too old to contain. Too young to have any sense. Too heavy to carry when one invariably sits down. Two climbers (probably in different directions) and one bolter.

When they're out in the garden, take the mum a cake and invite yourself in for a drink? Maybe then ask if they can contain the screaming. With kids that ages, the parents may well have lost their hearing and not realise how loud the DC are and are just grateful they're not indoors.

I have similar problem at the back of me. Young child, toddler, screams all day long. They have bi-folds opening up the entire back of their house. Yesterday I'd just had enough and I retaliated with Stairway to Heaven played very loudly. Naughty but satisfying.

TheLostNights · 06/08/2022 22:24

Think I'm going to go with the loud music idea.
It's not just the kids, it's the whole family as well, all really loud and love to sing loudly and repetitively, lots of shrieking, shouting and screaming at the top of their lungs. Even when it's just the parents and the kids, the kids will shout questions or demands at them even if they are sitting just next to them. They never, ever tell them to stop shouting and one of the kids cries loudly multiple times a day if she doesn't get her own way. I would speak to them if I think it would make a difference but I don't think it would. Makes it worse because they are out all the time because the weather is so warm and because they are off school. Total nightmare.😡

WTF? Let's hope she's not a Mumsnetter who never opens her door.

I can see the cake melting in the sun and the OP dying of dehydration 😁

Get one of those ear piercing devices that drives them all indoors and wear ear plugs while doing so

ClaudiaWankleman · 06/08/2022 22:33

It’s what kids do - they’re annoying. Fortunately they grow up. Noise is one of those things you put up with for living amongst other people.

Brilliant idea

I'm using this next time the delights next to me are out at 6am.

Was a lovely and quiet neighbourhood around us until they fucking well moved in.

My own dc have a trampoline but I've never allowed screaming or screeching when outside playing.

Mississipi71 · 06/08/2022 22:41

Well according to mumsnetters, when it comes to neighbours' gardens, it is their rules. Wonder how quickly that will change 🤔

Isn't there a device which emits a high-pitched sound which adults can't hear but kids can and it is irritating for them, used in certain shopping centres to deter kids from lingering?
