To start a counter thread: lovely things friends have done for you?

As a counter to the other thread about awful things so-called friends have done, I thought I'd start a thread about the really nice things a friend has done for you.

I have a very close friend I've known since I was seven. She is the loveliest, kindest person. Although we don't live close to each other I know I can call her any time and she will always be there if I need her (and vice versa). We recently met up with another close school friend who has lived overseas for years and it was wonderful to be together again. The second friend was prepared, many years ago, to cancel her holiday and fly to the other side of the world (where I lived at the time) when I got dumped by my long term boyfriend and my friends there turned out to be of the fair weather type. Both have been massively kind and supportive to me over the past difficult year, especially when I was going through chemo.

Anyone else got a 'lovely friend' story to share?

Lovely idea for a thread!

I’ve been having a hard time recently and had arranged to visit/stay with a couple who are my closest friends from uni. The train strikes meant I couldn’t travel to them (I can’t drive). They came and got me in the car and it meant the world to me.

@toffechai That's lovely - they really wanted to spend time with you. I'd do the same for a close friend, even if we ended up just spending all our time together in the car it would be worth it.

I was seriously ill in hospital last year (on a ventilator then bedridden for 6 weeks), in a hospital 60 miles from home. Visitors weren't allowed due to Covid restrictions.

One friend got her husband to drive her to the hospital, and she left me a suitcase full of stuff I desperately needed - a hairbrush, pyjamas, trousers, tops, pants, all the toiletries I needed, plus puzzle books, pens, lots of things. (I'd been admitted to hospital as an emergency, with nothing, then transferred 60 miles away. My friend was brilliant. When I got home, I had a huge bouquet delivered to her, then invited her round for lunch when I was well enough.

I was dealing with a breakup. My friend ordered cake and ice cream to my house. I thought it was very thoughtful.
