To ask for handhold with Invisalign?

Got my Invisalign fitted on Thursday, so I realise it’s early days. I just want to know that it gets less uncomfortable, basically. It’s not really painful as such - just so irritating!

I have top and bottom trays, and I dread taking them out because there’s that moment of real pressure on the front teeth once I’ve got the back off and am pulling it round. Is that normal?!

Eating is no fun because of all the stupid attachments (I have them on virtually every tooth) - teeth feel tender and weird.

Please tell me this will be worth it 😬I’m on Invisalign lite so don’t think it will be much more than 14 trays. I was surprised at this tbh as I though my teeth were quite bad. But that still feels like a long time to carry on with this lot in my gob.

If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for it? I had a consultation recently, had been expecting up to about £3000 and they quoted me over £5000. I do need to sort my teeth out as they've moved a lot in the last ten years (thanks, pregnancy) but that is a scary amount of money.

Mine are costing £3950. It was on a special promotion and is apparently a great deal… I’m hoping I don’t need extras beyond the 14 so I’m trying really hard to keep to the 22 hours a day rule.

I just keep panicking that my teeth will be weird and different from everyone else’s and just won’t move 😬 I’m dreading my check up because I can just imagine the dentist making those worrying noises and sighing as he looks at my unresponsive mouth.

I definitely can’t imagine eating in them! It’s bad enough eating at all now even with them out…

I haven’t taken many painkillers because I wouldn’t say they actually hurt (except when I have to get them out) - they’re just uncomfortable and I can’t stop noticing them all the bloody time.

I’m glad most people felt they improve though…

I cried for about 4 days after spunking the best part of £6k on Invisalign as I gagged for basically 48 hours, I couldn’t bear the back of the brace touching my mouth.

I also couldn’t take them in and out without a drama and felt my teeth were so, so painful when I ate normal food.

Within a few days I was a million times better but the tightness and pain getting them in and out was a regular thing when I moved to the next set, it just took my teeth time to adjust and move!

It was worth every penny, I now sleep with a Vivera retainer after having Invisalign for 8 months and have no bother at all! You can do it, OP!

You’ll get used to the feeling of having them in all the time, after a while it feels weird having them out!

I had 34 sets of trays overall, 22 initially and then 12 for refinements as one tooth was very stubborn and resisted moving. I had attachments on all but my 2 front teeth and one was so sharp I had to go back and have I filed down as it was cutting my lip when I was eating.

I found unhooking them from the back first was easiest to get them out. It will get easier as your teeth straighten. I bought a few different hooks to help get the tight ones out, the best one was from a website called Pul.

My dentist didn't charge me for the additional aligners needed to get the final teeth straight but he did warn me that the longer any treatment lasts, the more potential damage the pressure of the aligners can do to your roots - which is a good incentive to stick to the schedule. Since I've had a lot of 'final adjustments' he took an x-ray of my lower jaw this time to confirm that everything was still OK.

But he also said that not everyone's teeth move according to the computer modelling - we're all different. I had one upper tooth and one lower tooth that just refused to budge; I eventually decided to stop when the upper tooth was 90% right, and am giving the lower tooth one more go.
