Summer holidays

Aibu to wonder how your primary aged children are spending their summer holidays? I'm conscious we've not done much yet but with rising prices everywhere and work to juggle it's hard.

When mine were this age we didn’t spend a lot, I did one thing a day with them. It might be walking to the library, to the park, going to do the big shop. Other than that they played in the house/garden and watched too much TV !

We are on holiday for a week, then rest of the time one paid activity a week (eg swimming, bowling, cinema etc) then going on cheaper outings a couple of days a week (Park and picnic, walks, visiting family, out to a cafe for lunch) then the rest just hanging out at home.

So far, Minecraft and reading. But as I wfh I’m trying to work 7-3pm so we can do stuff/meet a friend etc. Haven’t really done much as last week we had Covid and now everyone’s away.
Thinking of getting them a badminton set.

We have memberships for NT, EH and several local attractions (zoo, museum, soft play), so use these a lot.

We live near the sea, so we have a few beach days.

Local parks.

Film days at home.

For cheaper days out:

Cinemas often do cheaper screenings of older films.

Check if any local attractions do summer offers, our local indoor inflatable place is only £5 each during summer.

Are you a NT/EH member? May be worth joining.

We were away on holiday the first week. This week they've spent a lot of time playing in the garden. We've also been to the park, done some baking and visited GP's. DD has a 5 day Dance workshop booked for next week, so pre-schooler DS and I will potter at home, go to parks, probably go swimming one of the days and to a children's museum that's too young for DD. The following weekend DH is taking them camping for 2 nights somewhere local. We have a couple of playdates arranged. I try to make sure they have a nice time, but I don't provide constant entertainment. I think it's important kids learn to amuse themselves.

Soft play membership sounds ace.

We’ve been on holiday.
NT place
library/park
beach (live local)
play date
free museum
art gallery
free the ducks/sketching
film at home
a million picnics including an indoor one when it rained

Agree with @KangarooKenny , one thing a day. We have EH style membership so try to do as make local beauty spots as possible, and lots of days by the lake close to our home. Lazy walks, picnics. Charity shops to see if we can find any good puzzles, books or board games. One ice cream a day in the afternoon (stock up from Lidl). We also watch two films a week and make popcorn etc.

Check to see if any free events, bands playing etc in your area.

My younger ones are in camp currently

After that I'm off work so will be days out to the Zoo, beach, local trampoline parks

We try to go out somewhere every day otherwise it gets very trying at home
