To be concerned and go to a&e

I've not been unwell other than feeling extremely tired all the time. I've woke up not that long ago to a slight crackle in my chest so i've gone to clear my throat, not hard or anything and I immediately taste blood in my mouth. I've not had a cough or bad chest in months so this is really random. I've spat into a tissue and there is blood, my throat has blood in it and i can just taste blood in my mouth now constantly. Im not scared to clear my throat again incase there is more. It wasn't a significant amount of blood but i'm still worried as it is so out of the blue!
Aibu to be worried and go A&e or should i just wait and see if i'm okay and stop being so dramatic?
And also has this ever happened to anyone else ?

Hi OP, I don't mean to alarm you but please if you are coughing up blood and having chest pain (albeit mild), you really need to be seen to rule out a blood clot/PE.

I agree, I know it’s tedious waiting but if they are saying it needs checking out please get it checked out at a and e. Pneumonia can creep up like this and can change rapidly. Can anyone go to a and e with you?

Northernlurker · 06/08/2022 20:36

The extreme tiredness concerns me. You need to go back, you've got chest pain, unexplained coughing up blood and ongoing fatigue.

CaptainBeakyandhisband · 06/08/2022 20:40

Oh god the nhs is so broken. It’s hard for any of us to say where you need to be, but 111 and a walk in have told you you need to be in a&e and a poster above makes good points about PE. I’d think about going back tbh.

AhaLyn · 06/08/2022 20:45

We don’t need to say where she needs to be. She’s been triaged twice to A&E to be checked.

AhaLyn · 06/08/2022 20:45

@CaptainBeakyandhisband agreeing with you there sorry.

ToppCat · 06/08/2022 20:50

I agree with those who say you should go back to A&E.

fizzywat · 06/08/2022 20:52

Have you taken a Covid test? Coughing blood is one of the signs. Do a test even if it is just to rule it out.

I think you are very brave, I would be panicking myself TBH! If you cannot get OOH GP or don't want to go to a+e please lie/sleep on your side for airway safety. However, if it was me I'd go back to A+E and wait there no matter how long it took.

Hope you will be OK.

DottyLittleRainbow · 06/08/2022 20:52

If you still have chest pain you should definitely go back to A&E. Chest pain and coughing blood can be a sign of pulmonary embolus which can be life threatening if not treated. I can’t believe you were encouraged to go away with those symptoms. Please go back.

Scaredypup · 06/08/2022 20:58

I’d say go back to a&e too

RonObvious · 06/08/2022 21:14

I was sent home from a & e because I was stable and therefore there was nothing they could do for me, but they urged me to follow up with my GP. My GP referred me for an urgent ct scan and follow up. I would definitely go back to your GP for further investigation.

allboysherebutme · 06/08/2022 22:38

It really annoys me when they make you feel like your a nuisance, everyone is entitled to be seen and we should be seen. It's not our fault they're over run. X

dunnowhattodo12 · 07/08/2022 01:27

I went back to A&E and have waited hours. I've got a chest infection so I've been given antibiotics now. Thank you everyone for your messages!

It's good you've been seen @dunnowhattodo12 hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon.
