To ask how to prevent vomiting

I have just woken up from feeling nauseous and have bad diarrhea. I am an emetophobe and am freaking out that vomiting will be next. Any tried and tested remedies to stop it happening?

I am currently considering eating a whole piece of ginger, a lemon, cider vinegar or some flat coke I have in the cleaning cupboard that I usually use to clean the toilets.

I'd try anything but scared to make it worse. My heart is racing, I thought I was doing better with my phobia but now it feels so close I am not dealing with it very well!

@Emetoremedy I think the nausea is worse than being sick sometimes, you get the relief afterwards. Hope you feel better soon

I think the worry of being sick often makes us feel worse. Distraction is key. For me, 100% of the times I've vomited, I burp lots beforehand. I would say so long as this isn't happening you are ok for the foreseeable, so don't worry until this happens

Hi. Hope your feeling better you can buy buccastem from the chemist sold as a drug to treat nausea whilst having a migraine attack. You put it under your top lip to dissolve, which is good as it means you can still absorbed it if your vomiting.

I also have emetophobia and the things that help me are
-cold air conditioning/fan blowing straight at me
-mint chewing gum
-camomile or mint tea
-lying in bed on left side with a pillow against stomach
-there is a nausea pressure point in the wrist about 2 inches up, try pressing this
-B6 supplements and antihistamines/OTC sleep aids (bonus you can fall asleep)

Also try and remember being sick actually only lasts a minute and then you feel relief from the nausea which is the best feeling ever! Last time I was sick (in pregnancy) all I felt after was 'that wasn't so bad, I have to remember this for next time.'

Andrews Salts always use to work for me

Sunnyqueen · 06/08/2022 07:59

Get some anti sickness tablets prescribed

Emetoremedy · 06/08/2022 08:13

Thanks all, I was sick around 5am then felt great so bleached the bathroom, had a shower and washed my hair. Now back in bed with awful cramps and nausea...

But yes after vomiting I did also think "actually that wasn't so bad and I feel the best I have felt since this started ".

I've never been poorly with tummy issues for this long before. I mean, it's only been 7 hours but I'm stuck in bed and can't look after my children and am already frustrated with it. The worst thing is that I can't even sleep for some reason.

Hi emetaphobic person here.
I haven't vomited in 47 yrs despite being pregnant twice and around ill kids.
What I do is keep busy, tidy clean wash the car.
I have ear pods now and would be loved them years ago.
I hope this helps.

allboysherebutme · 06/08/2022 22:31

I'd rather vomit than feel sick. X

whatisforteamum · 08/08/2022 08:00

How did you get on OP.

2under2howscary · 08/08/2022 09:31

Asda have a nausea and headache relief medication. It is absolutely wonderful. I'm scared since having severe norovirus when pregnant. 12 hours of being sick every 4 minutes, to the point I wet myself multiple times.

Those sachets are amazing.

Emetoremedy · 08/08/2022 19:27

I was sick I'm the end but just the once so got away lightly.

@2under2howscary Your norovirus experience sounds horrendous!

DC who was sick 2 weeks ago has smelly diarrhea again today, I'm just about done with bodily fluids!

@user375242 how did you get on? Hope.all was well in the end and you could enjoy your holiday
