...to pretend I am in Edinburgh?!

Cannot afford the Fringe so am paying £20 to Next Comedy for their livestream
(Should be £30 but used a JOKE10 code). Have a can of cider in bed, have taken the light off and am watching the compere Tanya Moore warm up late n live crowd. Not an AIBU but flagging it for anyone who might be missing it and wants to be as sad as me!! Wink

Wish I was not in Edinburgh I stay in town and the rubbish noise each year is a nightmare

Thinkthereieing · 06/08/2022 00:52

And

And

It was SO noisy today, I agree.

Mada1985 · 06/08/2022 00:57

It's a real nightmare if you live in Edinburgh

SequinsandStilettos · 06/08/2022 01:53

It must be wearing given the three of you have presumably had the last two quieter Summers?
I used to be a noisy tourist but children + cost have meant I no longer invade your beautiful city. Flowers

For those interested, here is the link to the website
nextupcomedy.com/edfringe/
It is a lovely idea (as was Shedinburgh the past two years) if you are nostalgic. You get access to 49 other livestreams for Fringe 2022, as well as the archive of comedy videos.
However, you should know:
Livestream (as it is the first time apparently) was not amazing sound-wise and did glitch twice. It got better (although whether it caused humming for the performers, certainly there were sound issues tonight).
Worth the money in my book, as £20 gives me full access, looking forward to watching Mark Watson on Monday, whereas going in person = £15 per ticket.
I would have been disappointed paying that for LatenLive tonight...several acts died on their arse and Thaniya Moore did an amazing job all considered. Used to be a drunk, heckling bearpit but crowd tonight just seemed indifferent, docile and bored.
There are also theatre shows available to pay per view.

tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on#fq=presentation_type%3A("Online On-demand")&fq=category%3A("Theatre")&q=%3A
Link for online theatrical virtual bookings.
If does not work look at Guardian what's on.

Sorry, cannot link - look up Best theatre to stream this month on Guardian site.
Whilst all the above may not appeal to those who already subscribe to nowtv, orime, Netflix or National Theatre, and can never replace real live performance, it is nonetheless good for those of us who would love to be there but can't.
Full access on next up comedy obviously refers to the 49 remaining Edinburgh shows they have opted to stream...they are only streaming them once while live, and if they glitch, they glitch. No massive names but enough to validate the cost. See site for list and subscription details.

And belated apologies to Edinburgh natives for my past misdemeanours/Summer invasions. I do envy you living there though. Fringe aside, it is lovely to visit year round.

We go every year (did so even when the Fringe was cancelled). We are quiet and well-behaved, and spend a fair amount of money.

If it makes you feel better OP, assuming that the performances take place in the usual hot, poorly ventilated and crowded venues, it’ll be a miracle if we don’t all come down with Covid.

Mada1985 · 06/08/2022 02:53

See the well behaved people are fine it's the people who drop litter everywhere shout and scream and getting completely drunk are the nightmares

SequinsandStilettos · 06/08/2022 02:58

Envy That was part of the fun Wink although some venues were akin to portocabins. Saw John Bishop in a shack, Dara in a mobile and was sheltered everywhere but the underbelly. Hope you are having a good time. I had Covid last month so do not envy you that.Xx

SequinsandStilettos · 06/08/2022 03:07

Sorry, that was part of the fun = squishing in
venues, not being drunk and disorderly!
Sheltered was sweltered
Thanyia Moore compere, correct spelling.
(Others on bill were Helen Bauer/Zach and Viggo/Susan Riddell/John Hastings)

I’m here for the weekend with friends. Been to see Elaine Miller’s “viva your vulva; the hole story” which is about sex, which is hilarious, and a bit of gender at the end which you could hear a pin drop, it’s hot is talking and laughing and feeling shocked that womens health is so dire . Tomorrow we are seeing Jen Ives Peak Trans for Balance.

Mada1985 · 06/08/2022 03:17

Enjoy I live across from the University this year's not as bad in previous years underbelly was in the square across the road and we also had the BBC tent but they have now build the new university part there so its quieter than before

SequinsandStilettos · 06/08/2022 03:39

Hope you get some sleep mada
Tell me what Jen Ives is like, if you get chance stealth as their show is being streamed on the 14th.
Chris Ryan also on bill tonight at LatenLive.
it's weird - all the acts have experience but some seemed to go down like a gilded lead balloon.
Maybe that is an issue with livestream, you 're not there so vibe is different or because I am sober
but crowd were quite low energy.

Virtual offerings for me this year, including the book festival. Love going there but it has become too expensive to stay anywhere.

KeyboardWarriorsUnite · 06/08/2022 07:28

I live in Edinburgh, and I have the next up subscription anyway.

I bloody love fringe.

I went to Mark Watson in person for one of the previews and it was only £9. I also managed to bag free tickets for 6 different shows, all of which were good enough to pay for.

I'm having a great time!

nonevernotever · 06/08/2022 08:39

I too live in Edinburgh, but think it's quieter this year, so far anyway. I love the vibe and the visitors (or at least the ones that are respectful of their surroundings). I'm less enamoured of the patronising ones (not you op) usually from London who go on and on about loving Edinburgh and totally understanding Scotland and the Scots (often trying to give off a whole trainspotting gritty vibe too) when the reality was they came up for a weekend with London friends, saw a few shows that they could see in London, and talked exclusively to other londoners.... I'm also not happy about the CFs who remember you exist in late July each year and ring you out of the blue to tell you (not ask) that they're coming to stay for a fortnight next week and they're bringing various new friends to stay too . We got caught by that one twice before we got our fuck off routines perfected .

nonevernotever · 06/08/2022 08:40

Or maybe I just had some complete arses as friends in my younger days

KeyboardWarriorsUnite · 06/08/2022 11:50

I agree. I think it might pick up a bit, because some people like to wait till the reviews are in to decide what they are going to see - but a lot of people might be (rightly) cautious about being around so many people.

SequinsandStilettos · 06/08/2022 14:20

Am now watching the Oxford Imps lot, it is...a struggle Grin I think I just hate improv.
