Chemical pregnancies, breastfeeding and progesterone/hcg

I'm currently experiencing what I believe is my third chemical pregnancy in a row.

I have an 18 month old that I stopped breastfeeding 3 weeks ago.

I had bloods taken this morning (I'm 10dpo had a positive test yesterday) as I started bleeding heavily last night.

My last few cycles my luteal phase has been 9 days (this is an improvement on the 3/4 it was while feeding a lot!)

I'm wondering if we need to stop trying completely to let my cycle and LP sort itself out as I'm convinced this is the issue, but my DH wants to keep trying.

My bloods came back at level 34 HCG and level 27 progesterone does this mean anything to anyone?

Booked in for another load of bloods on Sunday.

I just don't know what to do any more but this is really taking its toll on me. I'm no spring chicken so can't really hang around - and didn't want a huge age gap.

I'm hoping that it was the breastfeeding/prolactin that has been the issue and now I've stopped completely it should sort itself out.

Any and all advice welcome thank you!

I haven’t been in this exact situation, my periods came back the month after I stopped breastfeeding and I remember feeling SO much better - like I had been rebooted, less tired and pale etc. Your body has been through a lot and i would focus on nourishing and looking after it for a month or two before trying again - lots of healthy food, iron, good fats etc. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Sorry for your losses

I also had a chemical while breastfeeding and it seems to be a common experience - the hormones must be to blame. Once I completely weaned I had a successful pregnancy.

I'm still breastfeeding my baby and she has at least 8 feeds a day. I'm 10 weeks pregnant so not sure how that's linked. I hadn't realised breastfeeding could impact on miscarriage rates. Is that what a professional has told you? I'm sorry for your losses.

Sorry for your losses. I'm in a similar situation. DD has just turned 1 and still breastfed twice a day and sometimes once overnight. Fell pregnant last month but have had on and off heavy bleeding (I actually thought it was my period). Epu confirmed pregnancy but it's non viable and not developed past gestational sac. hcg levels now dropping quickly. I've had a miscarriage previously before my DD but this time I do wonder if breastfeeding has played a part as it's odd I've bled from 10dpo and think it could be linked to hormones?

A short luteal phase is less than 10 days so if it lengthens it might make a big difference..

I had a loss at 5.5 weeks when breastfeeding. Then I weaned half way through the next cycle, got pregnant and I'm currently 8.5 weeks. Maybe a coincidence but I'll never know!

You’ve only just stopped breastfeeding so it’ll take a bit of time for the hormones to settle. I don’t think you have anything to lose by keeping on trying.

I'm sorry for your losses, OP.

Not sure about the breastfeeding thing. I had recurrent losses before my first successful pregnancy and then managed to conceive my second without any losses whilst breastfeeding my first.

There's so much we don't know about what women's bodies do to support a pregnancy and why it doesn't always work.

See what happens with your next few cycles. Maybe your luteal phase will lengthen now.
