Would you take four month old to a far away island holiday ?

Or is this unreasonable ?

I'm thinking Caribbean or somewhere like that. Or Mexico.

It's too risky right, in case baby should get sick ? Or is that silly ? I would feel safer with a European destination - Spain, Italy, France and maybe Greece. But no islands, just mainland.

Or is that ridiculous ? I'm thinking in case baby gets sick, it's better to be near bigger hospitals, so not on an island.

I think that is a great age to take them and long haul you get a bassinet so dont need to have them on your knee all the time. We have been to Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore, all have good health care and easy to get about.

Most people don't do long haul for 7 nights. Ideally you need to do 2 weeks.

We went to Cuba when dd was about 4 months old. We booked a sky cot and the flight was fine.

You just need to avoid anywhere with maleria until children are old enough to take anti-malerials.

If you are bottle feeding, then you need to think about how you're going to be able to sterilise bottles etc. I breastfed and that did make our first few holidays a lot easier.

Not worth it

We took our 6 month old baby to a Caribbean island a few years ago. We had a fantastic time. She slept the whole journey and didn't really seem affected by jet lag etc. She was thoroughly fussed over, she loved the sand, pool, the sea and seeing the fish swim near to her. We made sure we had really good insurance to get healthcare if needed and we took a mosquito net for over her cot and buggy. We had a brilliant time with her and I would really recommend it.

Definitely not. Both mine had CMPA and were difficult babies so perhaps this is. Loading my judgement.

I wouldn’t but not due to health concerns. The jet lag will destroy you. I got so sick of getting up and 4am every morning on holiday, they never managed to get onto Caribbean time in the 7 days we were there. It also seemed to completely fuck their sleep so if yours is a good sleeper I wouldn’t risk it.

Seven days is nowhere near long enough for a long-haul holiday, no wonder you were exhausted.

You need at least ten days (ideally longer) precisely because of the jet lag!

Personally I wouldn’t until baby has had their first MMR.

I don't think it's sensible. In any case, there are plenty of options for warmth nearer to home, where medical treatment is accessible should it be needed.
