I want to give away my furniture

Rather than take to the tip I’d much rather give it away provided they get picked up.

They are nice bits of furniture, a double bed and sofa, less than a year old.

What's your AIBU?

Redglitter · 05/08/2022 01:12

So what's your question

XenoBitch · 05/08/2022 01:12

Nothing wrong with that. If your stuff is in good nick, then it will be great if someone else can make use of it.

ultraviolet4753 · 05/08/2022 01:13

Perfectly reasonable, people do it all the time. Save it from the landfill.
Put it on your local Facebook "free" local group, will dissappear in no time.
Clarify you cannot deliver.

We have given most of our old furniture and applicances away this way, and they go extremely quickly.
We got a new bedroom, and someone got our bed, mattress, electric blanket, pillows, bedding etc, as we upped a size. She was so grateful. Most are!

ultraviolet4753 · 05/08/2022 01:14

Charities like Emmaus will also pick stuff up from your house.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 05/08/2022 01:21

Put it on freecycle.

XenoBitch · 05/08/2022 01:24

Freecycle is ok, but you will get people begging, and asking you to deliver too.
You are better off putting it in your front garden with a 'Free' tag on it.

OzziePopPop · 05/08/2022 01:24

The British heart foundation collected ours, we booked and sorted it all online. It was quick and easy. We also liked the idea we were giving something back as we’ve both had help from various organisations in the past. Paying it back/forward now we can is rewarding.

BiscoffSundae · 05/08/2022 01:25

local Facebook page, things get snapped up quickly

Draughtycatflapreturns · 05/08/2022 02:02

Mine. Can you deliver?

MooPiglet · 05/08/2022 02:16

Oh dear, sorry!
I didn’t mean to post on AIBU!!!

Look for a local charity that takes furniture. The bed may give you trouble as charities often than not reject them for even a slight stain on the mattress, some may just take the base but then you are left with the mattress. I would try and offer it on a local site.
If you gat a charity to take the items, remember to gift aid (if applicable) as the will get more money for them.

Emmaus
British Heart Foundation
They may collect. Not great to send it to landfill. Local charity shops may like some smaller pieces.

AllAboutMargot · 05/08/2022 02:30

Some people are such cheeky fuckers. We're selling a sofa in a local fb group and a woman said she doesn't drive so could we pick her up to come and see it.

Charity shops only take upholstered furniture if every piece has a fire label attached.
