Evening all.

I did look to post on a health thread but unable to find the right topic.

Anyway, during lockdown I had a bit of a fall, my DS playing in the garden had thrown his frisbee and it somehow managed to land on the post of the fence whilst we were playing. The fence goes onto the garden wall approx. 6ft, additional fence approx. another five foot. Silly I know, climbed up to retrieve. Lost my footing and in a panic landed face/head first onto concrete slabs. Stupid I know.

I had a slight sore arm but an enormous egg one side to my head where I felt the most impact, felt embarrassed, aswel as putting NHS out.

DH took me to hospital, I felt quite knocked out tbh. Ended up with a slight fracture to wrist and elbow, however they never really checked my head, due to feeling mortified and quite knocked out never questioned it. Especially with DH not being able to be present. Just wondering if its normal practice to not check this injury if a visible "egg" present meaning no long term injury?

Fast forward to today and my AIBU is to ask for a scan or something? As i know how overwhelmed they are. Since the fall, I suffer quite badly with quite intense headaches but only the side of the head where the impact was, and also behind the eyes. Also have a visible line vertically from top of forehead to eyebrow where impact happened.

I know I could go doctors ect, but its an almighty struggle for me as suffer extremely bad with social anxiety, and some agoraphobia. Meaning I only take certain routes. So only want to raise my concerns if needed.

Many thanks all xxx

How long ago wasthe fall ? But yes contact gp first call gor advice

GoT1904 · 04/08/2022 23:53

I think this definitely warrants further investigation. Could you manage with a phone call to GP, who might refer you? Failing that then yes, I'd go to hospital and get it checked

WineOclock2019 · 05/08/2022 00:09

Thank you all, I'm not sure how to tag posts.

I was unsure whether being necessary after being checked over, and them not checking almighty lump on my head, assumed with swelling it wasn't required. didn't want to question as know how much pressure they were put under at the time.

It has been over a well over a year, but the pressure headaches just to one side at the front, eye pain in just that eye and tiredness, are getting too much now. And paracetamol ect isn't helping.

I will try put my big girl pants on and call GP see what he says,

Thank you all xxx

My aunt tripped and fell while walking, bashing her head on the pavement. She was concussed but seemed to recover fine, then she started getting severe headaches centred behind her eye on the side that was bashed. She went to the GP, who referred her to neurology IIRC. They said that the head blow had affected something in the joints between the plates of the skull and as result a nerve was swollen. She was treated with steroids, which helped a lot. But when she was still getting headaches after a few years, albeit much milder ones, she went to see an osteopath. After several sessions the headaches stopped completely.

TL:DR Yes, go to your GP, explain re fall and ask to be referred to neurology for further investigation. This is your head, brain, vision you're talking about. Don't mess with them!

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about your aunt, but thank you for the advice. And hope shes well now.

Will ring GP tomorrow and ask for advice xxx

What do you mean by the vertical lime in your forehead? A scar? Or an indentation or depression?

WineOclock2019 · 05/08/2022 00:42

Hi, no its not a scar, was not bleeding ect. Its like a jagged but vertical indent under the skin on the right side of forehead. Hard to describe, which sometimes looks worse on certain days for some reason. Mainly when headaches eye pressure worse xx

You could have fractured your skull. The NHS really should have questioned you when you first went to hospital about whether you had hit your head. I would definitely get seen ASAP.

Penguintears · 05/08/2022 21:27

Did you manage to see the GP today?

WineOclock2019 · 05/08/2022 23:06

Hi Penguintears, I tried calling a few times first thing, and on hold an awful long time. By the time I got through there where no available appointments and told to call Monday morning. So will try again then. Thanks for asking though xxx

How frustrating. Hope you get an appointment on Monday.

There are NICE guidelines on when to do a CT for a head injury - it doesn't sound like you met the criteria which is probably why it wasn't done. That's a good thing - it means there are no red flags and that a serious injury is very unlikely. It sounds like you're suffering some nasty but not unexpected after effects of a head injury. My advice would be keep an eye on things and go to your doctor if you're confused, drowsy or vomiting
