To think this is a bit freaky and uncalled for?

About a week ago my gorgeous cat came back and noticed his collar had been snipped. It was weird as it was still round him but definitely cut. I dont think it could have come off by accident as it looked like it had been cut with scissors if that makes sense. (Its a hard rubber flea collar the one on Amazon)

Then yesterday, he strolls in with a brand new blue collar complete with a jingly bell. WTAF?!
Like who would do this?
I try my hardest to keep him in, he sometimes just manages to sneak out and this is when this has happened.

Also, when we first got him I bought a tracker for him. But after awhile it just got filthy and muddy so took it off.
There was a random time he had on his harness and came back without it. 2 days later the harness was "chucked" on our drive?
Find it really odd. I have lived with cats all my life and never encountered tis before. I just dont know if someone is trying to claim him? I am scared to let him out now!!!

Does sound like it! Is he chipped with your details?

Elwynne · 03/08/2022 14:15

Yes keep him in for a bit and definitely get him chipped!

BlueKaftan · 03/08/2022 14:17

I would remove the blue collar and fit him in a different colour. Possibly attach a note telling them he’s your DCat!

TheGriffle · 03/08/2022 14:17

Can you attach a note to his collar saying he has a home and is loved etc etc so if he is going round somewhere else they will see it? Although if it all the same person they must already know he’s yours if the harness made its way back to you.

WinterDeWinter · 03/08/2022 14:18

Not the point, but why does your cat wear a harness?

Soubriquet · 03/08/2022 14:18

Sounds like someone thought your cat was a stray and have adopted him.

Snaketime · 03/08/2022 14:18

Is he chipped? If he isn't get him chipped now and if he is, are the details up to date?
Can you get another tracker for him as well to find out where he is going?

easyday · 03/08/2022 14:21

@Soubriquet don't think most strays bother with flea collars!
Put a proper collar on with a tag with cats name, your number and that the cat is microchipped and neutered (as I assume it is).

SirenSays · 03/08/2022 14:22

Yeah that's weird. I'd be keeping him indoors

LittleChicken11 · 03/08/2022 14:22

I think it sounds like a well meaning neighbour. Cat collars should have an easy release clasp in case cats get stuck on branches for example or try to escape it and get stuck around their armpit. Cats are notorious for this and it is a common injury. So I think they may be hinting that your rubber flea collar is unsafe (and probably ineffective too) and trying to help with a new collar - is it has a quick release clasp? Same could be said for the harness, they may have thought it was a safety risk on a unsupervised cat?

Cakeandcoffee93 · 03/08/2022 14:22

Ahahhaa this is funny and cute. I bet they don’t even realise he has a home

Dotjones · 03/08/2022 14:24

Definitely get a tracker fitted to him so you can trace his route. You can get ones with tiny video cameras attached so you might be able to catch whoever is interfering with him on film.

Macbeth8 · 03/08/2022 14:25

He is a gorgeous male ragdoll. Not being biased here, but he is stunning. We have caught grown men and street teenagers on the CCTV stroking him and taking selfies with him. 😍

He was chipped as soon as we got him. I even bought him the tracker.

There is no way they could think he was a stray!! He has always had a collar on.
We had a harness on him when we first got him to take him found the garden as thats what we were advised?!

.I had already thought about the note thing but worried they may become possessive and try to trap him in.
I am so worried now

Someone else also thinks they own Six Dinner Sid.

internetpersonme · 03/08/2022 14:31

I would be keeping him in.

whoruntheworldgirls · 03/08/2022 14:32

Keep him in! especially being a Ragdoll, they are gorgeous and so sweet, could easily be lured away.
Pics please :-D

midgetastic · 03/08/2022 14:35

If the new collar has a bell and the old one didn't perhaps he's been chasing birds in someone else's garden

Hm2020 · 03/08/2022 14:39

As he’s a ragdoll I really think he needs keeping in!

WinterDeWinter · 03/08/2022 14:40

I think someone took off his harness as a (quite aggressive) way of showing you they disagreed with harnessing an animal for no reason, since you clearly allow him the freedom to roam. I would myself think it was sad to see that (but wouldn't take it off!)

And I think the same person thinks that your rubber flea collar is dangerous because it doesn't look like it has elastic to allow the cat to escape if it becomes caught - they're a strangulation risk if so.

I'm sure they know who you are and that he belongs to you - they're making a heavy-handed comment on your cat-parenting ;-) - so I wouldn't worry that they might take him.

BiBoop · 03/08/2022 14:43

If he is a ragdoll he shouldnt be roaming free at all. Theyre so beautiful & friendly and will go off with anyone - plus they're a bit dumb & could easily get into trouble/ hit by a car, please keep him in or on his harness in the garden on a long lead, a girl on a forum I frequent puts hers on extendable dog leads tied to her washing line.

Piggieinthemiddle · 03/08/2022 14:46

If the new collar has a bell and the old one didn't perhaps he's been chasing birds in someone else's garden.

This was my first thought too.

WinterMusings · 03/08/2022 14:46

Sadly, I think you are going to need to completely secure your garden so he cannot get out. if you can't do that, then build a cat run or keep him in. 'Most if the time' isn't good enough if you don't want to lose him to whoever's doing this or worse still 'the road'.

gardenofweedin · 03/08/2022 14:46

I agree with WinterDeWinter. My first thought was that someone in the neighbourhood thinks they know better than you. They don't like flea collars or halters. Possibly don't think they're safe. It's odd, overstepping behaviour.

WinterDeWinter · 03/08/2022 14:47

I think it's pretty awful to participate in breeding cats that can't go outside and exercise their natural behaviours/instincts.

gardenofweedin · 03/08/2022 14:48

*harnesses, not halters
