“Holiday at home”

So my husband has announced we shouldn’t go to France next week if the weather stays like this, instead we should “holiday at home”.

Is it unreasonable that my head exploded at this suggestion? He doesn’t understand my feelings on what makes a holiday. He thinks it’s purely for better weather 😬

We’re at home Every. Bloody. Day. He WFH!! Getting the kids off their screens is a battle every day. I would end up doing the jobs I do every day. This is not a holiday to me.

To be clear, while my husband hates spending money we can afford a simple holiday, which is what it would be.

But AIBU?

Well it's not a holiday if you don't go anywhere is it? 🤦‍♀️

It depends what his actual plan is. Does he mean have a week in the house or does he mean enjoy the local area and have day trips?

I’m sure this is what he means, but there’s plans and there’s reality.

To be fair if your going via dover id cancel just to avoid the chaos on the roads but its not a holiday if you dont actually go anywhere so he is being unreasonable.

Longdistance · 03/08/2022 10:13

Leave him behind. He can ‘holiday at home’.

Caspianberg · 03/08/2022 10:16

Yeah that’s rubbish. If we had a full week at home with no work, we would still end up working, like painting garden fence, mowing lawn, cooking same foods

Go to France and eat crossiants

A simple No Darling Sorry we are going should suffice followed by a look that shoots daggers at his tight arse!

Depends what the actual idea is. Over the years we did this a few times with our young family, and honestly it was great. We planned days out (with wet weather alternatives), and ate out every day. The kids loved it too. No housework, cooking or cleaning, we were "on holiday".

Givemeallthegin8 · 03/08/2022 10:28

He can stay at home and yourself and the kids go on an actual holiday?

JenniferBarkley · 03/08/2022 10:29

I think a staycation can be lovely, we've done it a few times - days out, meals out, no cooking, housework, jobs etc. But - getting away is better!

We do this a lot as 3 of the dc are autistic and we live in a touristy place with lots to do locally so it works for us. I wouldn't be impressed if we'd booked somewhere and DH changed his mind though.
