Do you believe in luck?

I've noticed throughout my life, some people seem to be naturally incredibly lucky - things just fall into place for them and they appear incredibly blessed. I don't really believe in luck as a concrete thing, floating around in the ether but it does sometimes feel like some people naturally attract good things, as though they have some sort of magnetism which attracts luck.

Do you believe in luck?

YABU = No such thing as luck.
YANBU = Luck is a real thing and some people are very lucky.

I have heard that "People make their own luck" and there IS a degree of truth in that. That said... I have been incredibly lucky in my life, whereas other people, same opportunities in life have been screwed over.

Mind you.... sheer random chance in terms of statistics means some people will have an easier time than others (i.e. are lucky). As such, if you simple assume that "lucky" is a label we apply to those who are outliers on normal probability, then you would not be far off I suspect. We simply tend to notice only the people who are on either extreme, and only AFTER the lucky/unlucky events have happened - i.e. it is a post even rationalisation....

I don't think luck exists as something magical floating about in the ether if that's what you mean? I believe luck is something we use to describe good fortune or ease because we look for patterns, coincidences and reasons.

Luck is a concept also used to describe people who can make their own luck, as pp said, but there are scientific explanations for this.

Other than that, I think luck is used to find a reason for the randomness of events and circumstance.
