I have just come downstairs to notice a few maggots in my kitchen.

I disposed of them and left the room for a few minutes and when I came back there was another one.

I can't see anymore but keep going back to check.

What can I do if there are more ?!

This is gross sorry guys but I was coming down for lunch and now I'm completely put off.

I've emptied the kitchen bin and put the bin outside. There is no food out

Oh god. We had maggots all over a little puddle of fish oil behind the barbeque one year. It was grim and I'm now paranoid about the kitchen bin.
Another vote for lifting the rug.

Green7712 · 02/08/2022 13:56

Urgh it’s so gross. We had them once and eventually found they were coming out of a forest school crown the kids had made …. A canker I think. Anything like that in the room?

FourOclock · 02/08/2022 13:57

I had this last summer. There were so many under the rug 🤢 I think the food compost bin was the culprit. I hired a cleaner not long after 😂

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/08/2022 14:02

I had flies breeding under my kichen units and just couldn't get rid of them.

I got some flying and crawling insect killer and sprayed the floor all around the bottoms of cabinets etc. Worked first time.

(I used Karsten from Amazon, it's expensive but does the job).

DietCokeExtraIce · 02/08/2022 14:07

Definitely move the rug.. what are your kitchen units like - is there a gap underneath where something could have rolled under? Same for inside the cupboards I would take everything out and bleach everywhere...

MaggotHELL · 02/08/2022 14:27

Just quickly popped down between meetings and no new ones could be seen.

Pulled up half the rug and none under there.

Am I safe now?

Kitchen units fully enclosed.

Under the fridge has a gap but difficult to get to to clean.

@Mydogisagentleman We had the same - apparently a rat too that got it's exit stuck when an old disused drain was capped off . The bluebottles were totally disgusting and like you we were away and came back to it !!

They don't mention this in 'keep the romance in your relationship' guides!!

sueelleker · 02/08/2022 15:18

I feel for you. Do you have any pets that might have dropped some food in a corner? I found some in a blob of cat food once.

FourOclock · 02/08/2022 19:27

Also just remembered one of the cats brought a mouse in and left it under the sofa which then led to maggots under the sofa but luckily I found them when they were still at the chrysalis phase. God our house is disgusting 😂 last year was a bad year

MaggotHELL · 02/08/2022 22:04

Now you mention bluebottles I had the slow cooker on in the last couple or few weeks, it was a warm day so all the windows were open and when I went into the kitchen there were a few of them flying around and we don't normally get them. I wonder if it was from that day.

I spayed them with fly spray.

I had this when one of the kids (nobody owned up) put a piece of chicken breast behind the sofa (why?)
woke up one boiling hot day to loads of greenbottles (is that even a thing-massive green flies) flying around
thankfully they where really easy to kill with newspaper and kitchen spray-took about two days in total-they just kept coming
i didn’t see any maggots but I wouldn’t have done due to where it was
makes me feel ill just thinking about it-i can’t bear them in the house-I can’t rest until I’ve killed them or they fly outside
