the 'normal' and parathlete events are at the same time?

I wonder what parathletes prefer? a quiter separate competition? or the buzz of a fuller venue?

Totally agree op ....Great to watch both events although always feel more emotional and in absolute awe of the para athletes

bridgetreilly · 02/08/2022 13:26

Yup. Am going to the athletics tomorrow and really looking forward to seeing both.

Able-bodied might be a better word than 'normal' OP.

Yeah I think it's great. Especially at an event like the Commonwealth Games where the crowd for every event I've seen has been so welcoming and supportive of all the athletes.

thereisonlyoneofme · 02/08/2022 14:24

I think its brilliant that the para athletes get to experience the full stadiums and venues, the whole atmosphere of a major games. Ive always thought that separate games were probably not so well supported.

Floralnomad · 02/08/2022 14:30

I think they should do this at all events rather than having a separate olympics etc even if it means they need to reduce the number of races / events and extend the length of the event to accommodate it .

It is really good although it's not as good as it seems, they cancelled a load of swimming heats at the last minute (and after people had booked to attend them as spectators, too).

But I agree, it's great that the events have been interspersed with the "main" programme, and count as events towards the medal table. Alice Tai is just one amazing para-athlete and won a gold medal the other night.
