Swollen lymph node

My son has swollen lymph node on his neck, I’ve been to the gp yesterday and they say if it’s still there in 2 weeks to take him back and not to worry, I can’t help but worry at the size of it. I’m wondering if I should go with a second opinion or wait the 2 weeks out and see if it disappears

My son has one on his neck and has done for couple years now. It’s goes up and down in size. How did you get on in the end with your child’s lump? X

This happened to my daughter when she was 3. I was petrified. They did blood tests straight away and it was glandular fever

My son has had swollen lymph nodes in his neck for at least 2 years- he's 3 now. I pushed for it to be investigated and they did an ultrasound. They said there was nothing suspicious and that was it. I still worry about it from time to time.

I'm a very gland-y person. While I do currently have cancer, if every time I'd had crazy glands it was "the big C" I wouldn't have made it past childhood.

I understand it looks terrible and scary, but it could simply be caused by a throat infection that isn't causing other symptoms yet, or might not at all - that gland is a sign your boy's immune system is rallying against a threat.

I would keep an eye for a couple weeks, then take him back to like the GP said. Don't panic if it hasn't gone completely after 2 weeks, sometimes they're lazy about going back down.

One of our DC had one on his neck very similar to that when he was 2 years old. He went to the GP who said it was an infection but sent him straight to hospital as he needed antibiotics every 6 hours, and it was apparently easier to do it via IV. It was a little scary at the time, but it went down after a couple of days and he was as right as rain. This was about 10 or so years ago now, so the treatment might have changed. Hopefully he will get over it soon, but see how he goes and if there is any change in his condition then worth getting a second look.
