Hi

Sorry ..posting for traffic.
I haven't been to London since I was a child so need a bit of advice please.😊 I'm currently looking at three places (dd wants to go zoo and national history museum in particular) Will need to have options for food etc too.

One is near kings cross St Pancreas, one is near Charing cross station which seems to have more things near ( hotel claims it is quiet though) and last place is nearer to museum ( off Cromwell Road).

I am thinking the one near Charing Cross...but wanted to hear opinions..from here will it involve less travelling around to get about? I have spent ages googling reviews etc but wanted to hear opinions from people who are familiar with the areas.

Thanks for any help 😊

Charing Cross is a good base as you’re near Trafalgar Square etc and you can see Buckingham palace if you want to. Would recommend a sightseeing bus for your dd to see everything; will probably drop you near stuff you want to see as well so could be worth a go

Otherwise the tube will get you everywhere

There honestly won't be all that much difference between the two traveling wise. Might be more exciting in terms of seeing sites by bus from Charing Cross. Tube from Charing X to Kensington for museums will be faster.

Nb, I don't know if you know, but I think for some time now you've needed to book slots for general entry to Natural History Museum, eg to see the dinosaurs, so make sure you do that, and prepare for a wait if it's in summer hols

Charing Cross would be best. Can walk to Covent Garden, Houses of Parliament, Downing St, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Sq from there, loads of food options too. In South Ken you are only near the museums, and in Kings Cross you are near lots of nice places to eat, and fairly near the zoo, but not much else.

Charing Cross is a good area as you can walk to Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, parks and South Bank.

Agree with PP. Would avoid staying near King's Cross ... it's not a brilliant area, mostly just full of people passing through, getting fast food, dropping the wrappers, etc. Plus it's very trafficky. Nearby Bloomsbury is nicer but you'd have a long walk to get to the main tourist attractions (apart from British Museum which is not great for young DCs anyway). Charing Cross has a more "centre of town" feeling but still has useful small shops where you can pick up snacks and drinks if you need them.

Thanks Echobelly .. Didn't know that we had to book into the museum.. will look into it now!

Once again, thanks everyone!
