Two nosebleeds in one day - wwyd?

Slightly panicked so posting here for traffic.

Popped to the shop for ten mins around 2pm (only 5 minutes away) and left 11 year old ds with his teen siblings. Recieved a phonecall saying that DS11 had a "really heavy nosebleed that won't stop". Rushed home and by the time I got back it had stopped so sent him for a shower and started to clean up the mess.

He's just eaten dinner and suddenly his nose started again.

Again, probably only a couple of minutes of bleeding but I have no idea what's caused it.

He says he didn't knock his nose or anything earlier and didn't just now for sure as I was sat with him.

What would you do? He's on medication for adhd (equasym xl) but doesn't take then during school holidays, he does seem to have a nosebleed once every few months so two in a day is concerning to me.

Would you ring 101, book an appointment with the gp...keep tabs and see if any more happen??

Ring if you're worried, its always worth it to get some peace of mind.
I've had several nose bleeds recently though because it's been so dry here. Might be worth putting a humidifier on.

NuffSaidSam · 01/08/2022 17:31

This wouldn't concern me tbh. I'd just keep an eye on it.

Has he been picking his nose?

Call 101 if you are worried though, that's what they're there for.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 01/08/2022 17:36

My son used to get this all the time between age 7 and 12. Then it just stopped happening.
He is 26 now x

OneTC · 01/08/2022 17:38

Sure it's just a typo but it's 111 not 101

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2022 17:40

I wouldn't be concerned at all, honestly. This is very common.

Sprogonthetyne · 01/08/2022 17:43

Some kids are just prone to nosebleeds, especially in the heat. I personally wouldn't be concerned by this.

PancakesWithCheese · 01/08/2022 17:43

I wouldn’t do anything.

Changes of temperature can cause them, as can picking their nose. My DS has nose bleeds and I just sit with him until it stops then clean him up.

DesMoulinsRouge · 01/08/2022 17:46

My daughter has them regularly (as did I at same age).
I wouldn't be concerned. Probably a combination of the warm weather and picking his nose.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 01/08/2022 17:46

I mean call them if you're worried but that wouldn't bother me. My DD regularly has heavy nosebleeds so I'm used to it

RosiePosie27 · 01/08/2022 17:51

The nasal capillaries can be very close to the surface and bleed easily - I had to have my nose cauterised because of this. My nose would bleed whenever I cried which was really gross!

ArcticSkewer · 01/08/2022 17:53

Twice in one day wouldn't worry me at all. It's a bit like knocking a scab off and starting it bleeding again.

Haha yes, typo 🤣

OK thanks everyone.

I have a bit of a blood phobia and he was quite concerned about it so I wanted to reassure myself whilst I was reassuring him.

And I never know if his meds cause any of these kinds of things. It's scary having a little one on strong medication!

But it's warm today so probably just the heat.
Thanks again all :)

My son often has this too. The skin is already sensitive from first nose bleed inside the nose the blood vessels are so thin and prone to bleeding again. I would keep an eye, give lots of water and no fans at night directed on him etc because of the dryness x

bellac11 · 01/08/2022 18:43

I used to get these a lot in the summer as a teenager.

ive also got a splitting headache today, its the air pressure I think

NCHammer2022 · 01/08/2022 18:47

I get them all the time in the summer and have done since I was in primary school. In my case it was because my nose is already a bit irritated through hayfever so doesn’t take much to set one off. DD seems to be inheriting this tendency unfortunately.

User639921 · 01/08/2022 18:55

DS had them at this age, mainly in the Summer, I get them sometimes, you get to know when it is about to happen so there isn't much mess, they can be bit scary but often stop quite quickly

purplecorkheart · 01/08/2022 18:55

I get them regularly ever since a nasty fall as a child. Normally there is no trigger and they appear at random. Two in one day would not be overly unusual for me as often my nose feels slightly itch after a nose bleed and I may sniff or wipe it too hard and cause the bleeding to restart.

AliTheMinx · 01/08/2022 19:08

My son (10) has occasional nosebleeds and had two quite heavy ones a few weeks ago on the same day. He tends to get them when he's hot, and had a few when he had Covid. Could either of these apply? He has been fine ever since.

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 01/08/2022 19:33

Both my DC (DD12 and DS9) get nosebleeds from time to time and often in a little spate, so two or three in quick succession is quite common for us.

Temperature, air pressure and tiredness tend to make them more prevalent I find. If otherwise well I'd just keep an eye on them for now.

AlohaMolly · 01/08/2022 19:37

My DS6 has had them regularly since he was about 3. He used to get them at night times and would wake up screaming, the lower half of his face covered in blood, and really distressed, it was horrible! He’s got used to them as he’s got older, and can often wake himself up before they start. He can go months without any at all and then have six in a period of 48 hours. I do remember finding them quite upsetting when he was little though, before we got used to them.

DP and my brother both used to have them as young children too!

Alliswells · 01/08/2022 19:37

Unfortunately taking the shower could have set off the second one .. best to avoid until the next day after a nosebleed.

User639921 · 01/08/2022 19:43

If he has had one he is much more likely to get another soon after as it will be a weakness in the nose, I am always more careful after having one as I know that the slightest thing might set another one of as it won't be fully healed

rocketfromthecrypt · 01/08/2022 19:46

I used to get them all the time as a child, especially in summer. No biggy. Just grew out of them eventually.
