Is it normal to sweat a lot during this weather?

I spent the day in London yesterday and was sweating buckets all afternoon. It was only 27C but also felt really humid and clammy! I was a bit embarrassed though as I felt like everyone was looking at me and noticing when I was out and about. Is anyone else sweating a lot in this weather?

Yes!! It's very clammy. We need a big storm.

Happycow · 01/08/2022 10:10

Yes! The humidity is horrible, really stifling and makes me feel like i need to 'escape'. Dry heat is so much better.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 01/08/2022 10:22

Yes, but I am much heavier than I have been in previous years and I have a sneaking suspicion that has an awful lot to do with it.

SmithsterSister · 01/08/2022 10:24

Yes! Me too, I know I'm perimenopausal but it's like I'm constantly low-level sweating, I've been showering twice a day for the last two weeks.

It's miserable, give me rain any day!

colouringindoors · 01/08/2022 10:29

Oh me too OP, sympathies it's a horrible feeling isn't it. I'm also peri and overweight which I'm sure isn't helping. But yesterday i was in an airless stuffy shop and oh my god it was like my skin turned a tap on. Awful.

tinyturtles · 01/08/2022 15:55

I'm glad it's not just me - I usually feel like everyone is handling the heat fine whilst I'm a hot sweaty mess!

I had to deliver Paris council leaflets today,no sun out. When I got home, the back of my t shirt was soaked. I felt I could hardly put one foot in front of the other. We have high humidity levels in the UK. If you didn't sweat, you would die.

CactusBlossom · 01/08/2022 16:00

It's very sticky weather. Be grateful your body is responding appropriately!

Sweating varies a lot from person to person (I sweat loads and I hate it!) but 27C is a hot summer day, and a day in London is usually busy and involves a lot of walking around - with that on top of the humidity, I reckon most people would struggle. I'm sure you weren't the only person sweating the whole time, so don't feel bad about it!

I think also sometimes hormonal factors or medication can really affect the amount that women sweat or how hot they get, so if you were sweating much more than you think you usually would in those conditions, then maybe it's to do with where you are in your cycle, or hormonal contraception, or meds, or something like that.

Honestly I was so worried was googling sweating more than usual. Came up with thyroid and diabetes (I'm pre diabetic) but I've seen threads about the sweat so glad I'm not alone!!!! (And then thought it was peri menopause)

Could've written that exact same post myself!

Jackiebrambles · 01/08/2022 16:33

I've been genuinely thinking is this the peri menopause as I'm so bloody hot and sweaty today! Glad it's not just me.

tinyturtles · 01/08/2022 17:35

I'll be honest, it does make me self-conscious!

I agree that we need a big storm. But I just checked the weather and there's no sign of any rain in SE England for the foreseeable!

I'm older but still uncomfortable and it's one of the main reasons I have never wanted summer holidays. It was 98% humidity yesterday

tinyturtles · 01/08/2022 19:14

It’s only just over 60% humidity here according to the Met Office. That’s still quite high I believe, but 98% is something else!

I'm gardening in 80% humidity tomorrow. Same as this morning. I'm struggling to drink enough to not get dehydrated. It's awful.

Omg if its not then there is something wrong with me I am sweating
