Quitting work with nowhere to go?

Dh has just quit this morning. Hopefully he'll find something quickly but I'm worried. He hasn't started looking or applying. As he was in his probation period he only has to give a week.
Now I'm know I'm being a hypocrite as I left a job last year with nothing to go to but I got 3 months salary in a lump sum .
Aibu to be worried?

Depends does he have any savings etc to cover his lost in wages? Is this something he does regularly)

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 01/08/2022 09:18

I would be worried. The job market is apparently good at the moment but it's more the fact that he did it that would concern me. Has he done this before?

We have no savings. Just moved house 2 months ago. I'm sure he'll find something but how quickly I don't know.

Can he sign up to a temp agency while looking?

Petronus · 01/08/2022 09:23

I think this is the best time to do it, in so far as the jobs market is strong. I’ve done this before myself, but i temped after a week and had another permanent job after two. I’m really glad I did.

MichelleScarn · 01/08/2022 09:23

Are you working again yet? Where was he before?

Adversity · 01/08/2022 09:25

What were the reasons and does he make a habit of doing this ?

He should sign up for agency work doing literally anything while he searches for a more permanent solution.

I would be worried if I knew we couldn’t cover the next lot of bills due.

Lochnessgiraffe · 01/08/2022 09:29

I was lucky and got a 3 month contract before finding a perm job.
I understand why he did it. But would have liked him to be further down the road to getting a new one first.
I can just about cover everything

If by continuing to work there was a risk to his health or it was dangerous, illegal practices or something serious I would be 100% supportive. If he just didn’t like it or it wasn’t what he thought it was going to be and left because of that I would be annoyed.

Its good you can cover the upcoming bills. I assume as he left he won’t be able to sign on or whatever it’s called these days.

Newlifefortyplus · 01/08/2022 09:41

I quit last Wednesday, I now have my pick of 3 jobs I'm just weighing up the pros and cons in and will start one of them next week.
I was in total panic when I quit but it t is all working out ok.

JennyForeigner · 01/08/2022 09:42

I did this this year. Would never ever have considered it previously, but I had a long notice period which could have been a problem in a search.

The jobs market is very strong. Unless you're in a very difficult area it should be ok.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/08/2022 09:46

I did this after nearly two years. I should have done it in the first month. I found a temp job then a permanent job. I'm not the breadwinner though.

Lochnessgiraffe · 01/08/2022 10:31

He is the breadwinner though. I knew it was on the cards just surprised that he'd done it
