To bloody hate splinters

Got a stupid splinter from a tree branch in my finger and it is so painful and won’t come out. Too small and deep and any probing leaves me in agony. Tell me the little bd will eject itself, I feel a bit daft booking a doctors appointment!

Chuck on some germolene and put a plaster over it.

Ok

I managed to put the side of my hand frown on the a pot of cacti. The whole side was full of tiny shards of glass like splinters. Thankfully all have gone now, but I couldn't pull them out with tweezers as they just snap off.
Tip - should you ever do this, get some pva, cover the area and let it dry and then peel off the dried glue layer (pretend you are back at school) and it pulls them out. Might take a few goes.

But don't book a gp appointment for a splinter! Cover in germolene or savlon, cover with a plaster and it should come out in a day or so.

I use an ice cube to numb the area and soften the skin, then pick it out with a sterilised needle - you can go back with the ice cube as often as you want.

This is a good way to deal with splinters in children - give them the ice cube and it puts them in control, which helps.

I swear by a bread poultice. A bit of dampened bread over the splinter, covered by a plaster. The splinter should be out of your flesh and in the bread in less than 48 hours. This was my mother’s remedy when I got a piece of a rusty nail in my knee as a child, and I use it for splinters to this day. Grin

Try and suck it out with a calpol syringe

Sockmonkeysloth · 31/07/2022 23:43

Wet a bar of soap. Rub it where the splinter is. Sprinkle sugar on it. Put a plaster on top.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but it draws the splinter right out overnight!

^^ I second the calpol syringe suction method. Instant relief.
