To be struggling with smelly armpits?

its only just started but I’ve had to throw clothes away because I can’t get the sweat smell out (tried vinegar and bicarb of soda, tried oxy-stuff, drowning in febreeze, nothing). I’ve tried various deodorants, Mitchum, Sure etc. Tried sticks and sprays. My pits just smell all of a sudden. I’m washing them regularly, I don’t understand. I’m worried I’m going to have no clothes left!

any tips for anyone whose struggles with this? Thanks

Thank you everyone for your recommendations! Making lots of notes of what to do in future.

definitely using non bio, just washing with body gel stuff that my husband buys so will switch to a bar of soap and invest in a stronger deodorant.

thank you!

Peri-menopause?

Ooh I hope not, I’m only 30, not sure I’m done having kids yet!

Use bio powder, not liquids or pods

Driclor as others have said, no problems with excessive sweating in other areas and only use it once every 2 - 3 weeks now. Make sure it goes on dry skin, only use a maximum of two swipes per pit and allow it to fully dry before you put your arms down otherwise it can irritate.

Use soap instead of shower gel. The dettol antibacterial soap is the best.

You can use driclor doesnt but it burns like mad or use any stick deodorant, not sprays or roll ins.

If that doesn't work there's always Botox

And when you are washing your pits with soap, make sure you scrub at them with a flannel (which goes straight in the wash after one use).

Try this on the clothes

I remember about 25 years ago I heard of driclor and gave it a try in desperation rather than hope. On my way to work the next morning just waiting for that drip drip in the arm pit. But nothing. I was flabbergasted. Still doing the business 25 years later. I think my sweat glands there must be part sealed by now I only use it once a month.

I do have sweaty feet so I am in sandals half the year and can get by with shoes and socks in winter but slip off my shoes whenever I can.

It can sting though. Don't apply more than the stated dose.

Actually I switched to Odaban now (It's more or less the same stuff) because it has a spray rather than roll on. Spray seems to cause slightly less irritation.

I apply the stuff on a night where I am really tired immediately before getting into bed. If I don't drift off to sleep quickly it starts to sting which gets worse if you can't drift off to sleep.

It really did change my life.

I knew someone who used to work in a slaughterhouse. He said they provided anti bacterial soap (like dettol soap) for the workers to use, and people used to take it home as it stopped you smelling. Worth a try?

britneyisfree · 31/07/2022 23:21

Try making a bentonite clay paste ideally mixed with Apple cider vinegar but water can do it in a pinch to spread on your pits. Leave your arms up (lay on the bed) and let it dry. Wash off.

Works wonders. It allegedly detoxes the pits. It's worked for me over the years. I'd say I go through phases every couple of years of really needing it, no idea why. Both ingredients available online. Fullers earth also works.

@Palg68 no, Dove is not real soap. It's a "beauty bar" with moisturisers. Only for the face.

You need really cheap basic soap like supermarket own brand or pears or something. Personally I like Faith in Nature or CeraVe unscented soap so I can use on my privvy parts.

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 31/07/2022 23:30

In case no-one has mentioned, try hibi scrub (the pink liquid soap that they make you shower with before you get an operation).

PeloAddict · 31/07/2022 23:40

For clothes get some dettol or fabulosa laundry stuff
Turn clothes inside out, saturate armpit area with the liquid before washing. Put in wash with bio powder and the laundry liquid (it goes in the fabric conditioner bit) and do a decent hot long wash

That's saved some of my tops before when they've got sweaty!

For armpits bar soap, hibiscrub, anything like that and use a flannel to get some friction to clean any deo residue. Wipe armpits with glycolic acid. When that's dry use one of the sure/dove creams you put on at night

raspberryrippleicecream · 01/08/2022 00:14

I swear by soda crystals for sweaty clothes, it worked for my teenage boys t-shirts. Really cheap in the supermarket. Also brilliant to have at hand for drains.

Ballsaque · 01/08/2022 00:20

Odoban is less irritating than Driclor/perspirex
