Once they have all crusted over then yes but not before.

New ones are still emerging 😞

I've had to cancel a holiday and feeling absolutely gutted about it. A few friends are saying I should just have covered her up and took her but I felt I couldn't do that and have it on my conscience so just feeling very guilty at the moment. Daughter is in tears begging to go.

I really feel for you. A friend of mine took her son out today, only discovered he had pox two days ago so I'd be v surprised if they'd scabbed over yet. I was asking carefully in case you were her. I have a lot more respect for you!

NumberTheory · 31/07/2022 18:27

The holiday is gutting. Hope you can find something nice to occupy you all.

CakeCrumbs44 · 31/07/2022 18:27

No I wouldn't. That's really upsetting about your holiday, do you have insurance which you could claim on? I don't know if this sort of thing is covered.

Penguinfeather781 · 31/07/2022 18:28

No, not if there was any way to avoid it.

And I definitely wouldn’t go on holiday, mine felt fine first couple of days, then had hundreds of spots and were really quite unwell. We’d have been stranded, at best.

pliset · 31/07/2022 18:29

Whilst infective? No.

But then I have a child who had horrendous chicken pox, was off school a month and has 100+ visible scars that are still visible years later.

It's not always a minor childhood illness!

Clymene · 31/07/2022 18:29

Oh god no way. That's not fair on anyone. Sorry, it's rubbish

niceandsimple · 31/07/2022 18:29

my daughter has now, and is devastated but I will not allow her to go to her day camp this week. On the other hand she is miserable and probably wouldn't enjoy herself if she did go. She has spent much of today "resting".

usernotfound0000 · 31/07/2022 18:29

It's very sad but you are doing the right thing OP. We had to cancel a trip a few years ago due to it and we could claim on insurance.

Figgygal · 31/07/2022 18:30

Absolutely not if not scabbed over
Taking her to shops would be bad enough but your dickhead friends suggesting you plow on with a holiday 😡

Oh that's so crap OP, I'm so sorry. Is there any chance of being able to join in a few days?

Bedtimeforever · 31/07/2022 18:32

When are you due to fly?

My LO caught CP 6 days before we were due to fly, was anxious I would need to cancel, and they were drying up after 4-5 days. Day of flying they had dried out. Do you have time?

SpiderinaWingMirror · 31/07/2022 18:37

Stop feeling guilty. You are the parent and you have made the right decision.
I was exposed to chicken pox at 7 months pregnant by an idiot who should have known better.
It's practically the only contagious childhood disease that kids get now.

ComplexNeeds · 31/07/2022 18:43

You did the right thing. Chicken pox can be fatal to kids with reduced immunity etc. Your travel insurance should cover your holiday but you may need a GP letter.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/07/2022 18:53

No because of the risks to other people.

So sorry to hear your holiday was spoilt. Rest assured you have made the right decision though. I know it's very disappointing 💐

HowcanIhelp123 · 31/07/2022 19:40

As horrible as it is, you did the right thing. Chicken pox can be dangerous. I never caught it as a child, and it could be very dangerous for me to catch now. You could have been in close proximity to someone immuno-compromised.

Pixies74 · 31/07/2022 19:45

FreezyFreezy · 31/07/2022 18:00

Not to the shops if they're still fluidy, no. We did go to the woods one evening though, to get out of the house.

This. Though wasn't during the first 3 or so days so was probably nearly all scabbed.

Pixies74 · 31/07/2022 19:47

Suzi888 · 31/07/2022 18:13

No. Shingles seriously affects the elderly. CP affects those who are immune compromised, it can also seriously affect adults who haven’t had it.

Your other two points stand, but just to clarify that you can't get shingles from chickenpox, only the other way around. Shingles is like an autoimmune reaction in someone who has already had chickenpox, when they're run down etc.

Thethingswedoforlove · 31/07/2022 20:51

We had to cancel a holiday because of chicken pox. It’s totally rubbish. I feel for you

bloodywhitecat · 31/07/2022 21:05

You've done the right thing. My DD picked up chicken pox and she ended up with them on her brain, so while for many it is a simple childhood disease for some it can be far more serious.

Then get better friends quite frankly. They are idiots.

EL8888 · 31/07/2022 21:17

Not a chance. Selfish and irresponsible

LilacPoppy · 31/07/2022 21:21

@Suzi888 No. Shingles seriously affects the elderly. every thread someone says this. You cannot catch shingles from chickenpox!

houseofboy · 31/07/2022 21:25

Feel for you we had to come back early from holiday because my eldest came out in chicken pox. You are doing the right thing but understand the frustration.
