Anyone else about throw their phone/laptop out of the window?! I realise I'm really lucky to have tickets, but my goodness, accessing them is proving so bloody hard. You have to wait in the queue just to access tickets you have already bought and paid for?! Every single time you want to see them?! One of my friends now can't make it and there's no way to change the ticket holder (I can change her name but not her email address - why not make the previous ticket invalid?) yet you also cannot download a ticket more than once or the previous version is invalid. I also can't find an option to download on my phone so saved to my google wallet which I've now discovered makes the one my husband printed for me at work invalid. If this doesn't make any sense, that's the point 😂
Anyone else losing the will?!

I would suggest just using CityMapper to get around and ignore the travel suggestions on the website.

Kite22 · 30/07/2022 22:44

hoping 2 hours will be enough to get from the uni train station to the hockey?!

Er...the University train station is on campus as are the hockey pitches.
Probably a 10min walk - maybe allow 15 ?
The rail strikes have been on today (Nationally) unfortunately so I presume that will have impacted on people getting around.

Dontlickthetrolley · 30/07/2022 22:49

I've used my parking space for all parking this week. Avoids the park and rides and hopefully easier to get away from venues afterwards

timtam23 · 30/07/2022 23:34

@User65412 I am going to the Sunday afternoon session of the hockey so will report back if there are any issues. I don't think the walk from Uni station to the hockey will take more than 15-20 minutes but I'm hoping the train strike today won't have a knock-on effect on the trains from New Street to University. The tip from a PP to walk to Selly Oak station to avoid the worst of the crowds on the way back sounds v useful

User65412 · 31/07/2022 07:36

@kite22 that's what I thought but I'd heard of delays disembarking the train and queuing for over an over to have tickets checked at the venues.
Hopefully no train strikes on the day I'm going 🤞

I just downloaded the tickets as pdfs and sent them to myself on my email. No hassle there.
We were at the rugby sevens yesterday and whilst getting there was no issue, trying to get out of the car park (we used the park and walk) was mad. It was chaos and then people started turning up to park for the evening session when people were still queuing to get out of the morning.
We have athletics tickets next weekend and that’s a park and ride because we can’t get a train early enough from where we live so have everything crossed. It isn’t as mad and they resolve some of the issues.
Big queues in the stadium for coffee and souvenir store. You could have done with another 3 or 4 coffee outlets and less bars! Very few were drinking at 9 in the morning. I now need to work how to return the mini rugby ball my eldest bought as it won’t inflate.

Kite22 · 31/07/2022 11:45

@User65412 I've not been to the hockey but have seen that two friends have and neither mentioned those issues, so fingers crossed for you.

timtam23 · 31/07/2022 19:09

@User65412 hockey session today was ok in terms of organisation, there were long slow queues for bag check but we got to the back of the queue 30 mins before session and once through there we were quickly into our seats with 5-10 minutes to spare. Long queues for all food, drink and merchandise. Refill water station was ok for queues. After the session we walked to Selly Oak station which was far quieter than University and probably took only slightly longer to walk there. Walked straight onto a train and got a seat before the crowds at University. Really enjoyed the hockey, great atmosphere and a very friendly crowd.

@timtam23 that's so very helpful, thank you so much for taking the time to post. Glad you enjoyed the day! I'm looking forward to it even more now. Thanks for the train station tip - we'll definitely do that!

Agree it's a nightmare They keep changing the instructions too. My first batch of tickets was allocated mid-July and the email said they either had to be added to a digital wallet or printed at home - implying it wasn't possible to use a downloaded pdf on your phone - but they seem to have relaxed that now. At least I hope so.

I added my ticket to Google Wallet and forwarded the other ticket to my DH, but his arrived as a PDF only - there was no way to add it to his wallet. He couldn't print it from his phone so he had to forward it to back to me so I could print it from my laptop. Now I'm worrying about the bit that said "if you forward your ticket multiple times it will be invalidated". 😬

User65412 · 02/08/2022 18:51

@latestngratest - I'm hoping that forwarding the same pdf won't have an effect, regenerating it on the website makes the previous one invalid though? I hope so as I've had to forward it to several people 😂
@timtam23 can I ask you about the rows? Which rows were you and was it any good? Struggling to find a map of the row layout, only the a, b, c sections. A friend went to today and was in row j and said it was great. My tickets say row 'am' so does that mean I'm miles away?!

@User65412 we used our tickets yesterday and they were fine, despite having forwarded the pdfs.

On another note, I was a bit 🙄 about the free (empty) plastic water bottles and gummy sweets in plastic packets being handed out at University Station - just what we all need, more unecessary plastic waste and public money spent on unecessary marketing! Going by the branding, it seemed to be the train company rather than the CWG that was doing it.

timtam23 · 02/08/2022 23:52

@User65412 we were in row Q, I can't exactly remember the pricing system for the tickets but we had paid extra for seats I think, so that we could be closer to the front. We had a really good view but I think even in the rows towards the back you'd still get a good view because the stands are pitched quite steeply so nowhere is too far away from the action, and the people in the row in front do not block your view. We were also in a block very near to the centre of the pitch so we could see all the action pretty well. There is a big screen too. Row J would have been amazing, yes. But I don't think you'll be disappointed with row AM

Can anyone please recommend the best way to get to the Alexander Stadium from New Street? Not sure whether to get shuttle bus or train to Perry Barr (for morning athletics session) - are these both rammed?
