We called into our local Wilko earlier in the week. They had a load of stationary type items (pretty notebooks, pens, pencil cases etc for kids) reduced to 15% of the original price. I bought all they had of some items on basis they will make up some lovely packs to be birthday gifts next year that are worth £10-15 per pack but cost less than £2 each. Mentioned it to a friend at work who thinks I shouldn’t have bought them up en masse as lots of people could have benefited from getting them cheap. I figured it’s just luck of the draw and had we not got them then someone else could have bought them 10 minutes later or no one could have bought them and they could have gone to landfill. So is it reasonable to just grab a lot of reduced items if you spot them or is it mean? I know not everyone will agree but hoping to see if majority go one way.
YABU - if it’s a great offer buy 1 or 2 and leave the rest for others
YANBU - if it’s a great offer buy as many as you will use and be pleased with your good luck

I mean...just from a storage point of view I don't like having to find places for loads of things at home, however good the deal is. Sometimes my DP comes come with 5 jars of pasta sauce or something as it was on special, but it annoys me as there is no room in the cupboards and then I have to find places to store all this "good" deal.

I would probably have got a few (maybe 3) and left the rest. I don't think there's anything morally wrong with what you did though. Early bird catches the worm and all that.

I don't blame you.
Twinings teabags were half price in Sainsbury, so I bought all that were on the shelf.🤷‍♀️

It's reduced because they want it gone, and don't think it will go if they don't. You did them a favour.

Fancy stationary is not exactly a necessity.

Yeah I would do similar. For example my child had a dairy allergy his oat milk is usually £1.40 but sometimes reduced to £1 (or 3 for £3 deal), I buy up a big stock of the stuff when it goes on offer as it saves a lot of money.

Stationery I couldn't get worked up about, I'd only be annoyed if I saw someone snap up a load of food items if it was something I wanted. But then I suspect I'm being unreasonable on that one because 20 people could have come in and bought 1 of the thing, rather than all. They'd still be gone

Sure why not? You snooze you lose!!
I do this sometimes but have the unfortunate habit of putting stuff away for xmas/birthdays , then forgetting about it 🤣
