To use paper plates

I hate washing up, I have pretty bad mental health issues right now and am a single parent so there's only me to get things done.
the housework gets me down, i end up leaving washing up for ages then ordering takeaways. My particular MH issues makes things like washing up, a very long and mentally draining task. Plus my sink is half broken so I can't use it properly and won't be able to replace it for quite a while.
I've started using paper plates for the kids breakfasts (toast) and lunches (sandwhiches etc) to cut down on the washing up and it works well for me but is it awful? Some kind of extreme laziness? I feel a bit guilty about it!

If it works for you, then great. But isn't it rather expensive?

A broken sink sounds unhygienic. Can't your landlord replace it now?

Whatever helps you make it through the day. Just give yourself time to breathe and then, when you feel more able make a plan to change one thing, no matter how small, to start to get things back to 'normal'.

It’s ok

whatever you need to do to get through x

It works for you, and that is what counts.

Whatever you need to do to get by OP…
Have you thought about using cling film on your proper plates if they’re having toast or sandwiches and not needing to cut anything on them? Might work out a bit cheaper for you to just peel that off and throw it away rather than using up a paper plate each time. I’ve absolutely done that with microwave pizzas in the past!

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/07/2022 00:32

Absolutely - very sensible

If you stick a sheet of kitchen towel on top of the plate or just wipe it, it can probably do a few rounds of toast and sandwiches.

Look out for table top dishwashers on free cycle - or maybe even put up a note explaining a bit of what you’ve explained here, and ask if anyone has one they don’t use.

They just plumb into your sink, and mine has changed my life. like you I hate washing up and it always piled up

for now, if it helps, do what you need to do and don’t beat yourself up.
long term though, this isn’t a solution. Are you receiving support with your mental health issues? You need to develop coping mechanisms to help you deal with day to day things such as this, and prevent them spiralling out of control. If you haven’t already, please see your GP. 💐
