So I have 2 dc, 5 and 2 and we are going on holiday next week (we booked it last minute) it’s my DS’s first holiday (he is 23 months) I’m really looking forward to it but I keep worrying about all the stuff I have to buy, haven’t bought anything for myself and the dc’s yet! Help!

Primark all the way, they've got some lovely bits for kids and get yourself a few bits while your in there

RoseAndRose · 28/07/2022 22:04

I'd only buy what they'd actually outgrown.

And for me it would be buying to fill gaps in wardrobe - so I'm thinking of getting a lightweight hi-spec hiking jacket

What do you and your DC actually need?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/07/2022 22:04

I usually restock shorts and tshirts for the kids at the start of the summer holiday so those clothes just get brought on holiday.

Ds and dd (7 and 10), got 5 new tshirts, 3 new shorts, a new swimming costume and a pair of summer sandals each.

But this is the time of year we replace the outgrown ones so not specific to holiday. And I ordered it all from H&M sale (apart from the swimwear).

confusedlots · 28/07/2022 22:06

I had to get quite a bit for my kids as I wasn't going to be able to wash clothes on holiday and at home they have quite a small wardrobe and I just do frequent washing. I did get a few more expensive things that should get quite a bit of use, but other than that I stocked up on t shirts and shorts in Matalan etc.

Nectarines · 28/07/2022 22:06

My two are 6 and 8 and we haven’t been away for a few years so this year I spent about £100 on each of them to buy shorts, T-shirts, summer dresses, sandals and swimwear. Not just for actual holiday but also to do the summer at home too.

Farawayfromhere · 28/07/2022 22:06

I buy a couple of extra cheap t shirts and shorts and one extra lot of swimwear so I can pack beforehand and still have some things for them to wear. I try not to buy too much, but I do quite like having a couple of new things for holiday.

AdriannaP · 28/07/2022 22:09

I got everything on Vinted too. No need to spend lots for one holiday.

crazeekat · 28/07/2022 22:12

2 girls 5 & 10, and 80% of it is off Vinted, it's brilliant and have not had a single item not
As described.
I do buy specific "holiday" clothes, usually in big sizes tho eg: 10 year old I'll buy 10-11 or if age 10 I'll always go one year up and it last a few holidays and weekend breaks etc throughout the year.

alnawire · 28/07/2022 22:17

Like others I didn't buy anything, I just took their actual clothes.

StClare101 · 28/07/2022 22:31

I don’t specifically buy the kids holiday clothes.

I might buy myself a new swimsuit.

Svara · 28/07/2022 22:36

Is there a reason that their current clothes are not suitable? Swimsuit, sun hat if they don't have those maybe?

pimlicoanna · 28/07/2022 22:37

It's towards the end of summer and we are going in a couple of weeks. Apart from new swimwear for us all I haven't bought anything specifically for the holiday because I bought summer clothes for them months ago.

sunnyside238 · 28/07/2022 22:37

I spent £50-£60 for our holiday in May. And meant he had clothes for the whole summer too. If you have enough time to wait for delivery the get on vinted

DappledThings · 28/07/2022 22:39

Also didn't buy anything for holiday. DC already own shorts, tshirts, sandals and swimwear.

PMAmostofthetime · 29/07/2022 07:58

@Leapinglizards1 next has an online sale:clearance atm
Sainsburys has an in store sale.

Primark is always good for t-shirts,
Swimwear and pool shoes etc- remember they will probably not fit next year.

Then one or 2 nice outfits for the evenings that they will wear again at home.
I always pick up pool cover ups and Kaftans for myself at primark and extra underwear and vest tops. My clothes for year on year so I usually buy one or 2 nice bits too.

I think realistically you can get both children and your self kitted out from scratch for £150 . Less if you all already have stuff. You ca.n do the little ones whole holiday attire for around £35 in primark. And your oldest DC for not much more. Then you have £75 for yourself.

Suncream at all supermarkets is 5 ⭐️ uva and 5 ⭐️ uvb which most known brands are not. And factor 50 is around £2.39 a bottle.
