Day1 of Saxenda

I took it around 12:30 this afternoon. Felt a little nauseous. Sickness gone now but I’ve eaten lots. Usual bingeing after dinner: had 4 Kit Kats, 3 packets of crisps and 5 biscuits even though I had a big dinner and felt satisfied. Prior to the binge I had an uncomfortable conversation with someone over the phone so obviously emotional eating. I’m so ashamed of myself. Will Saxenda even help with emotional eating? I’m very obese and been subscribed by GP.

I believe it works by suppressing your appetite but if you're eating when you're not hungry anyway I doubt it will make a difference, I could be wrong though.

Another emotional eater here, and prone to binging junk food. I've been on Saxenda for 3 weeks today and am just over 8lbs down. I'd say it took until my dose increased to 1.8 to really start noticing a big difference - I now spend most of the day feeling full, and while I can eat, I just don't feel the urge to. It's helping me reasses what I eat as well - with the knowledge that most days I'm only managing one normal meal and a few small snacks, I find that I'd generally rather have something healthy, which is a massive shift for me. Best of luck to you OP, you've already taken a huge step by starting 🎉

Thank you both!

it’s not going to work if you’re ignoring ‘not hungry’ signals and eating anyway because something’s upset you etc

I was on it for 9 months before my insurance changed and the cost went from $45 a month to $527 and I could no longer afford it. In that 9 months I only lost 20lbs, over eating is not my issue, they now think I under eat and are trying to get me to eat low carb, high protein and more calories. WE will see, this only happened since menopause.
Anyways, saxenda kills ALL appetite and in my case all interest in eating. The doctor made me promise to eat a bit protein at least 3 times a day. I was eating 1/3 cup skyre a cheese ball, 1/2 can of tuna and an egg a day. I had to force myself to eat that cos she made me promise. Not even remotely hungry and no interest in food or cooking. Cooking is my passion too. Its what I do for fun, not when I was on saxenda though.

@FrocksAndFrills goodluck! It’s amazing to hear that. Hopefully today will be better. Can you keep posting on here so we can motivate one another?

@theoldtrout01876 goodlluck with your weight loss journey too. I agree that’s too much money for only 20lbs but you will do it and get to your goal weight. Please keep posting too so we can motivate one another

Hi - maybe ask if you are still taking it?

I am considering taking it too. But worried when I stop....

NoExpertinthis · 06/08/2022 18:02

I used Saxenda for around 2 months. It caused severe nausea, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, low mood and anxiety. In that time I lost a total of 9lbs. As soon as I stopped it within a few days all of the side effects went away and my mood and anxiety so much better. Sadly the hunger re-appeared stronger than ever. It’s definitely not a long term fix, only works whilst you’re taking it. I’d possibly try it again in the future, like before a holiday or something but don’t think I could stick with it long term the side effects outweighed the benefits.

Thank you for your reply. Did you put the weight back on or managed to keep it off? Thank you

NoExpertinthis · 06/08/2022 18:39

@amarante sadly put over half of it back on. I suspect the majority was only water weight anyway really not actual fat loss. But if you read other threads and join the FB groups it does work for some people. It really is individual. Good luck!

Mebs · 07/08/2022 20:07

Hi @amarante, I am indeed :) I'm in my fifth week now and up to the highest dose, which is 3mg. Happy to answer any questions!
